# 1 Requesting more decks
09-22-2012, 03:32 AM
I would love to see more decks on federation starships, such as:

Holodeck - a deck of holodecks (combat training, information, RP, etc)

Battle Bridge
- as the name suggests (battle simulations?)

Shuttle and transport - shuttle bays and transporter rooms (shuttles you have can be seen)

science deck - stellar cartography, etc. (gather info and assignments from each lab)

engineering deck - engineering, diagnostics, etc. (option to build boffs, doffs, etc.)
* for the officers you would have to collect parts (some costing Zen) but you could build custom androids, holograms, exocomps, etc. (these would cost alot to build)

other crew decks - visit your doffs/boffs (possible the ability to assign them a room)

** small lunch room - for runabouts

*** option to board enemy ships in combat - enter your bridge, go to shuttle, fly to enemy, board enemy vessel, kill enemy's manually, get back on shuttle, fly home.

****ship health in corner of screen while on board, order crew to go with you, talk to crew, ship shakes as hp drops, you die if ship your on blows up, explosions as health drops, etc.

I would happily pay for this sort of thing on the C-Store. this would be very useful for role playing.

I'm not sure about the Holodeck. It's a large rectangular prism with a net of photonic projectors.

Battle Bridges are featured only on ships capable of saucer separation.

Transporter room is already on Engineering deck, and Ops officer can switch you to a shuttle.

I suppose an Astrometrics lab wouldn't hurt for looking at the pretties, but a Science lab is already on Engineering.

Engineering deck already exists.

The Captain's quarters on Crew deck seem to work fine for quarters.

Runabouts wouldn't have much room to eat. Officers usually order a tray of food, and eat over the consoles.

Impossible to board a ship in combat. It would be a huge time sink to shoot down a warp core and get back in the fight. Aside from that, you have Boarding Parties to zap a subsystem.

Crew talking in combat? Definitely not. You'll have to come back in and out constantly to do anything.

Would be awesome, but I imagine it would be a lot of work for the devs. A more feasible idea would be to add the ability to create interiors in foundr, so you could create custom ones with whatever number of decks possible.

I agree that many of the rooms are already in existance on other decks, but I would like to have the rooms more spread out. It would also be excelent for role playing.

Runabout interiors are actually pretty damn big. Big enough for three humans and an android to take an extended trip while having at least a small amount of privacy from one another AND have a decent sized dinning/meeting room.

I would like to have an actual shuttle bay instead of selecting small craft in the transporter room.

And that shuttle in my bay better look exactly like I have it equipped!

I'd actually like to see a customizable Captain's Quarters, just so you can add your own personal touch to it. Throughout all the series you see Captain's and Crew Quarters decorated with personal affects. It shouldn't be too hard to set a generic list of items in pre-designated areas of the room to place. Like extra trophies you haven't placed to a retro TV like Lt. Paris had in Voyager.

Well, yes and no. The Connie couldn't separate except to permanently jettison the entire secondary hull as an emergency measure. It did, however, have an auxiliary control room as seen in "The Doomsday Machine" (and maybe others?). This was probably rendered unnecessary on later ships since LCARS enabled any console to be reconfigured for helm, tactical, or whatever was needed. If there was some problem with the bridge, they could take command from Engineering (or just about anywhere). But, obscure trivia aside, it's not something that we need in game.

Most of what the OP is asking for seems to be RP oriented. I do sympathize, it would be cool if one could actually run around their ship and do things. However, most of the actual functionality here is offered already in simpler ways. Most people are going to get Doff assignments from the Doff window, and missions from the missions window. The only use for having rooms to duplicate this stuff is so you can run around your ship in an RP group conducting actual gameplay. Unfortunately, while potentially fun, there are SO many more things this game needs developed before they spend dev resources on things just for aesthetic/RP reasons.

Just so you know, decks on ships are analogous to levels or floors in a building - I believe the word you are looking for is "rooms".

Whilst expanded ship interiors have been on the wishlist of many players (including myself), the main problem, as pointed out by many others, is stuff like accessing shuttles, managing DOffs can already be done via UI windows rather than manually running around speaking to DOff NPC contacts.

More importantly, how often does one use ship interiors as part of the core STO game experience? AFAIK, the vast majority of players right now are focused on STFs, Starbases, Foundry and the occassional episode missions. Ship interiors simply don't get used by players often enough to justify dev investment into it.

There's also been a large shift in MMO playerbases in general - less and less people are interested in RP, while more just want to pew-pew some baddies and nab some sweet gear.

But I digress, and rather than raining on your parade, I suggest you take a look at an unofficial proposal I've published in the link under my sig, which includes player customisable ship interiors, as well as how to integrate core gameplay elements into it so that people would be "required" to use ship interiors more often.

Game features I'd like to see improved / expanded: Better Ship Interiors // BOff Costume Slots

I agree it would be good to have a reason to use ship interiors more often. Perhaps if there were missions which involved your ship interior. Such as fighting off boarding parties, rescuing trapped boffs, etc. Maybe you could add/use a console allowing for an SOS to be sent to nearby ships (sort of like organising an event), they could then beam aboard you ship and assist (for a small reward). It would give a reason to add more decks and/or rooms to the ship interior. It would also allow for consoles and/or ship interior personalisation, so you could add things such as weapons lockers (to supply crew), emergency broadcasting (to send out SOS), Denfense turrents (to fight off boarders), etc.
theoretically such missions and upgrades could be added to NPC Ships. and could even be added to fleet starbases.
