Honestly though, often, gear level is not really the problem as much as knowing which type of gear to use (stacking field gens, armors and energy type consoles), BOFF abilities and knowing when to use those abilities. Standard blue mk xi gear is often sufficient for even Elite STFs.

Besides, since you seem to be unhappy about a newbie warping out on you, that's more of an attitude problem with him/her, not a gear problem. Most newbies don't read these forums anyway.

All you can do is try to talk to them in-game, and hope they listen. Failing which, your last resort is to attempt to carry the STF yourself, which is often doable if you have at least two escorts which know what they are doing.

And one more thing, I hardly think STFs have gone way up or anything since f2p. They're actually marginally easier, IMHO.

You can complete space STFs, even Elite ones, with white gear.

They are easy and require very basic coordination.

Or he had a glitch, started the map only to have the game decide 'mission complete' and warp him out. I've seen that happen several times over the last 2 weeks or so, to myself included. Send them a private message with the room name so they can rejoin.

Also, overpriced fleet gear is by no means necessary to run an STF. White-quality MkX stuff can get through Elite-level missions without much difficulty so long as your ship is set up decently and you use at least basic tactics. As much as we may enjoy tweaking our builds for better numbers, expensive equipment is no substitute for brains (or good manners).

As long as the a group manages about 15k dps total all of the stf's are doable. If you're all in cruisers with crappy mk x white gear that's probably impossible, but one or two players doing 6k dps and a couple of other warm bodies at the keyboard can make it happen, and then people will get gear.

Though generally I would think mk xi purple weapons at least would be polite for elites. You don't really want to be 'that guy' who did 1k dps.

The big thing seems to be knowing how players do the missions (not necessarily how the quest objectives tell you to do them, but how to actually execute that) and if you're willing to pay attention all of them can be explained in about 4 sentences each.

I've had stubborn players not believe Donatra decloaks at <5km when you have threat and she has at least 1 downed shield facing, and continued to making strafing runs at her even though she'd cloak every time!

Why should they believe you or care at that point?

I dont believe that tale because I never heard it before until I returned somewhere in the last month and I left in May/June due to technical problems, I dont believe they programed her AI to act in such a way since there is really no point.

They dont have any reason to believe some random stranger that says "do X" because we all seen our share of Infected Space Trolls, some that I believe belong to the "distinguished membership" of the Elitists STFers since I cannot understand why would someone deliberate sabotage something were they have something to gain at.

And before that we had the wonderful advice in CE about the usage of mines, until Cryptic pretty much shut down the whole thing (that is what I suspect why some people are sabotaging Infected Space) so I am sorry but if people ignore you advice does not mean you are right, especially about that so called "5Km rule".

Sorry but my Klingon Tac in his Qin heavy Raptor did 4k DPS with white DHC's and an MKVIII Harph'peng in ISE. Oh and 40.000Skillpoints aren't yet distributed ;-)

You don't need fancy stuff in ISE if the team knows cross-healing, getting under the Cubes, 10% rule. You will get optional all the time :-)

Elite STF's are so easy that you don't need much to succeed and still there so many fails

In my personal experience yes gear is not as required as many seem to think thanks to how the math in STO works and how easy the STFs are.

Also those who tend to rage first tend to be the worst player of the group as far as setup goes. I just love people in CSE who freak out when a cube blows early because they are in a failboat setup that does nothing and don't even realize it.
