I am about to start a new toon, and I am not sure about which ship gives me the best bang for the bucks.

I will start probably with a tactical officer (I've played only the sci so far); and in the past, I remember that I would get a token for each promotion, so at that time the problem of which ship to get was not so worrisome.

Now that we need dil and z points to get decent ships, I would like to hear some suggestions about which ship is worth buying, based on these factors:

- how well they retain their value (basically for how long can i fly with them and still being competitive in PVE)

- which one has console that I can transfer to other ships, that are useful also when you hit VA

- that suits tac toon (but can be useful also for other professions)

I have some dil and z points saved, due the fact that I've got the VA ships almost for free (bought the caitian ship, so science is covered; got the 1000 veteran ship, which is a tac ship, and I have the anniversary version of the odyssey, which is a cruiser for the eng class, so I have one for each ); so now I would like to invest in something that I can have fun with and at the same time, that I may use at lower tiers while i work my second toon to VA.

I do not have enough to buy all the ships, nor I want to put money in the game; that's why I want to aim to the best that the shipyard has to offer I know that there is not a "best" ship, but there are ships that are worth more than others, and I tried to look at the stats but it didn't clear up my doubts...so I prefer to ask to others that played for sure more toons than me

Thanks in advance!

Wait before I answer, I want some clarification. Are we talking about good VA ships or lower tier ships.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Tired of Wasting EC and Time trying to get Superior Romulan Operative BOffs? Here's a cheap and easy way to get them, with an almost 100% chance of success.

If you've got the 1000-day ships then I really don't see what else you could need since its a perfectly effective escort, with universal boffs to boot. The only even-maybe-sorta alternates I can think of are the Armitage (for escort with pets) or the Vesta pack or Nebula (both for sci versatility). But frankly if you've already bought a LTS, just save your stipend for utility stuff or whatever super-fancy whatever comes out in the future. Why spend more money just cause you can?

They are all good C ship or not just make your build right and put your points in the right places for space and ground. It is the weapons that make them what they are phaser are good overall damage.tetryons are good to wear down shields and Antiprotons are good at criticals.

It is best to use photons, quaantum toprs or the harpang torpedo.

Agree partially....I was playing with my caitian carrier, and no matter what weapon and console do I put, that thing was not meant to deliver massive damage anyway Each ship has pros and cons due to the different play style; so I would assume that, like in any MMORPG, each class play differently (and here the classes are the ships, right?), so a science toon may be played well also with a ship that is not a science ship, but you would not pull out the fun of playing a science toon

The whole weapons build is something that I am still tweaking...that's a whole different can of worms to open

I wouldn't buy any C store at this point untill you get good at playig Tac.I didn't get my first C ship untill I was VA.

True, but I will have no ship when I start the new toon In perspective I am covered, but since I gotta go trough the ranks, I would like to buy a useful ship that gives me also a usable console when I hit VA.

I would gladly not spend any of my dil or z points (i've hit VA without ever buying anything on my main, and I did not have too many problems...even doing STF with the free galaxy refit was not that hard) , but then I would miss some fun console or ships

I am starting a brand new toon, so I would like something that can be used at lower tiers, but that has good value so I can use it even when I level up (I do not expect to use any ship more than one tier higher the one that they were designed for, of course); same goes for the console...something that can be a good value added on a ship when my toon hits VA.

Honestly, the free Patrol Escort or Advanced Escort (if you want an engineering ensign or science ensign more) can do you extremely well as-is. They have no fancy consoles or extra abilities (though if you so chose, you could use the Multi-Vector mode on the Advanced Escort if you ever buy the MVAE), but do their job as escorts quite well.

That said, all the Tier 5 Escorts on the Fed side are good, it's just about what you wanna do:

Defiant: Has the Ensign tactical on it, making it annoying that it does, but it does have the cloak, allowing for alpha-strikes.

Armitage: Engineering heavy with it's Lt. Cmdr engineer, but has a hanger bay, and a lot of potency because of it.

MVAE: Has Multi-Vector mode, letting you split one ship into three, along with it having a Lt. Cmdr science for a bigger sci heal or a CC ability.

Those are the three main VA level escorts. Of the three, people would be split on what is best, but I generally prefer the Armitage myself, because of it's Lt. Cdmr engineer personally, the hangar bay is mostly a nice extra option on what to choose.

That aside, the Grappler on the NX-replica...very meh.

The Impulse booster console from the Gladius, quite useful if you wanna move REALLY fast in a straight line. Good for getting from A to B, even in a slow, lumbering ship.

The Thunderchild's Point Defense is excellent at shooting down fighters, torpedoes, mines, and frigates, especially if buffed with Tac buffs and/or Phaser consoles.

The Sao Paulo's Quad Phaser cannons are excellent to level up with in an escort, but I don't recommend them as much for end game, especially if you wanna use another kind of weapon type later on.

I think that is about all. Of all those, the Point Defense and Impulse Burst is probably the best choices for consoles to use with anyone.

Thanks a lot for your insight!

Is the patrol escort/advanced escort free? Did not know that...I just played 1 toon from close beta to now

I was tempted by the MVAM, but I have already a Tac for the VA tier, and the stats looks pretty similar, so I was more inclined to go for the Armitage, since it has the hangar, and I like the engineering abilities to heal hull.

My style is more like firing a lot from far away and move around trying to minimize the damage as much as possible...played cruiser mostly, with my science officer, so I find hard to use small and not so resilient crafts...that;s why I want to start a tac toon, but If there is a choice between indiscriminate damage with low survivability, and lesser damage but with the chance to hold the ground for a bit, i go for the second Which means that probably the tactical escort is not the ship for me (but many loves in pvp, since it is a moving dps machine LOL)

So for low tier ships, the thunderchild would be worth, since I can use the point defense console.

If I buy the sao paulo, are the quad cannons bind on the toon that purchase the ship? Since it is a tier 4 ship I was wondering if there was any way to use the quad cannons on lower tier ship...they seems a good weapon, and considering that I don't do PVP, nor I do STF at Elite level, means that they are the strongest weapon that I can put on my escort

The impulse booster seems similar to evasive maneuver if I am not mistaken

Thanks for the info!
