# 1 Question about carrier use.
11-04-2012, 01:48 PM
i have been playing carriers on both sides due to the versatility its hangers provide allowing me to team support or be a dps powerhouse. now i was wondering is there a way to increase the skill and weapons damage of the hanger summons? will certain consoles provide the benefit to not only me but my support craft as well?

You can increase the effectiveness of carrier pets using 'flight deck officer' type doffs.

Most just reduce the time to launch fighters but there are some rare ones. Check this wiki page:

Unfortunately buffs from Tactical Consoles won't carry across to your pets.

The only direct way of increasing their damage are Flight Deck Officers. If you go down this route, then chosing an "+accuracy in intercept mode" DOFF might be more viable than choosing a "+damage in escort mode" DOFF... getting your fighters to consistently attack something in "Escort Mode" really requires a friendly target who is going to stay in close range to the enemy, but you can tell your fighters to attack something and then switch them straight into "Intercept mode" without causing their AI to go on the fritz.

You can, however, indirectly increase their damage by debuffing whatever they're shooting at. Attack Pattern Beta, Disruptor Weaponry, Power Drains, etc... all work well. A good combination is to increase your pets' accuracy via the appropriate DOFF, then immobilise whatever they're shooting at in order to drastically increase their critical chance/severity. Gravity Well or Power drains accomplish this nicely.

If you're flying Redside - try equipping all disruptors, and using pets which have disruptors (I've found two wings of "Advanced To'Duj Fighters" to be the best option for this). Throw in an Attack Pattern Beta for good measure. Disruptor Procs inflict a small resistance debuff against all damage types, but a more powerful resistance debuff against disruptor-typed energy damage... and it stacks from different sources (your fighters count as a different source!). Combined with an APB; if you and your pets all shoot at the same target with disruptors, it won't be uncommon for you to inflict disruptor damage resistance debuffs that spike into the triple digits. At that point, you and your pets will both be doing a *LOT* more damage.

well ive pretty much got the entire setup youve described minus the flight deck doffs. thank for clearing up that minor gap in the carrier wiki.

The best way to increase the effectiveness of your carrier pets is to use your abilities to debuff their target. Hit it with APB, target its shields, drain its power, and so on.

A carrier in STO is, in essence, the ultimate support ship.

One other thing to do, and it will cost you some Dilithium, is to purchase the Advanced form of whatever kind of fighters you are using. They are available from the Dilithium Store tab that is next to the Zen Store tab underneath your mini-map (it is the icon with the Dilithium Crystal on it). Advanced fighters usually have superior weapons, as well as better shields and hull hit points, compared to the non-advanced ones.
