# 1 Year Of Hell - Chroniton
11-21-2012, 09:12 PM
in the 2 part Ep "year of Hell" Voyager is ripped apart by chroniton torps one or two shots ( not saying it should be like that one here but come one these aint even close )

on here they dont even come close to norm photons

having the best consoles dont even do well

chroniton on here is almost the worst dmg type yet in ST they are out of phase of normal space time

they should do more dmg

im not saying drop the rest but perhaps making chroniton better or stronger

example 1st chron torp fired at a borg ship should rip thru shields like they werent there until they could adapt

Certainly not. If so, why would anyone use anything besides chronitons?

Chronitons are balanced, as they have a potent special effect as it is: the chance to slow your target. They are not meant for pure damage. If you want shield penetration, go with transphasics. That's their special effect, even if it is only partial.

Besides, Voyager was only 'ripped apart' by chronitons because they did not have the necessary shielding. If chroniton torpedoes are in common usage (as in STO, which is years ahead of Voyager), wouldn't it stand to reason that most ships would already have the necessary temporal shielding upgrades to prevent chroniton torpedoes from bypassing shields?

TL;DR: Chronitons don't need the buff to damage because they are for debuffing, not damage.

Scurry pretty much said it. There was a thread in this area too that basically said the same thing about transphasic torpedoes, and how they, since they were powerful in Voyager, need to be as such in this game.

If you want damage, use quantums. If you want a debuff, use Chronitons.

that aside, they're my personal favorite torpedo/mine type in the game.

What happens when your opponent stops moving? He turns into a sitting duck. In fact in STO since speed quite literally = defense, he suffers an effective resistance debuff.

Used properly chrons multiply all of your other sources of damage. That's exclusive to them alone.

vids and guides and stuff

Yes. Speed is life. If you can bring your target to a complete halt. They loose all defense due to speed. They also get hit with a -15% defense penalty on top of that.

Voyager was ripped apart before they devised a countermeasure in the form of their temporal shields. Later in the same 2 parter they were almost immune to chroniton weapons, forcing the Krenn ship to switch to conventional weapons. Likewise, transphasics were only so powerful as long as your shields weren't adapted (which is stated in Endgame the Borg could do, just not before Voyager wrecked the whole hub).

For comparison, if you have no defense, even a photon torpedo is a potential death sentence - just the blowback from a close range explosion could destroy a Galaxy-class ship if its shields were down, and Voyager destroyed a ship that had taken several torpedoes without a problem by beaming one directly inside the ship. However, with proper defenses, even the Defiant takes dozens of hits from them (but a single torpedo lodged inside the hull still becomes a serious issue).

All these weapons are in common use in the Alpha and Beta quadrants. Similar to the Breen energy dissipators (another god-like weapon defeated by technobabble), countermeasures would already be in place on the ships of most or all major powers.

----------------------------

Use chroniton torpedoes with beam target engines,
Gravity well, tractor beam , energy draining weapons, doffs
Spec your skills to take advantage of this, then use warp plasma

Your enemy can't move
Game over
They are powerful single target weapons if you take
Advantage of their special abilities

You think that's bad? Transphasic torpedoes are supposed to be the ultimate anti-Borg weapon.
