How does the phaser point defense work? Is it a universal console that fits on all ships? can you click it and it works kinda like cannon rapid fire and add to your dps for a couple of seconds?
Im running 4 cannons 3 turrets 3 shield generators 5 relays and 2 empty enginering slots. Should I spent the zen and add the phaser point of defense console for extra dps? what else should I add to this build?
Phaser point defense works great against swarms of fighters. The better the ship, the less effective it is. It has a 3 minute charge. So it is not useful for most situations. Dealing with a Carrier or a bunch of fighters or against frigates, then it is useful, but its not useful in STFs.
I find the Phaser point defence to be an awesome weapon against frigates, fighters, everything to be honest. I use one on my fleet Excelsior. They are like having an extra pair of turrets with cannon scatter volley every three minutes. With 4 phaser relays and directed energy modulation, they also shoot quite effectively through shields.
Also, all the procs you can get like directed energy modulation, tetryon glider, the omega kinetic damage proc, and the romulan plasma proc from the embassy ultra rare science consoles, will all work with your point defense module. So definitely worth it.
Agreed, one of the most useful consoles available. Wish the cooldown was lower though. In PvP also when your opponent is on his last 10% hp, the PDS will finish him off so I save it to last with GDF and as many other buffs I have left.
If someone makes a mistake or a probe gets too close to the portal in Khitomer Accord space, it tears through them like wet paper, as an oh sh** button. Similar story with regen probes in Hive Onslaught that the space gherkins spawn to heal themselves. Also helps as a blanket of fire against multiple high yield plasma torps the tac cubes fire. Very handy console.
