Something me and my fleet mates do that we enjoy a lot is we pick a system that has a asteroid field ring around it and all jump into shuttles and have a race. And its a lot of fun. I remember there was a Voyager episode with shuttle racing, It would be cool if cryptic could make some maps with the boost rings and other obstacles, or have a full blown race mission, the officer in the club on ESD could start it since he does the tour of the galaxy mission. This is just something we do for fun and it seem like if there were specific worlds with race tracks with floating power ups and random gravity wells and the sort it would be a blast.
I would actually enjoy that quite a bit, particularly if colliding with asteroids and other obstacles caused damage to your vessel. Obviously that mechanic isn't in-game right now, but putting a modified version of "ramming speed" on every shuttle (no speed boost, reduced damage to self) and making the asteroids targetable opponents would do the trick.
AFAIK, Night of the Comet is the only mission that utilizes the boost rings. May as well put the tech towards some other maps as well.
Good idea.
