# 1 Excelsior CANNON build help?

So I'm considering trying cannons on my Excelsior because it's got a decent turn rate. So how do I best put together a cannon build for a cruiser? Should I use SINGLE cannons, so I can still broadside, or should I use dual heavies front and turrets rear?

You can only use single cannons and turrets on the Excelsior.

They are good if you just want to face the target and deal good damage without the need to broadside. This may be good if you got a torpedo heavy build.

FACE PALM...sorry for the lapse, I knew duals and dual heavies were only for Vestas and Escorts lol. Anyway, ok so if I try this it's single cannons. Thanks for the correction

I did hear its a workable build. Though if you plan for going the romulan prototype Romulan beam array, i would go beams.

But if you go another energy type, the cannons are a very valid thing, you just need at least one tactical team.

I run a fleet Excelsior with 4 singles front and 4 turrets rear. It can be quite effective using Aux to Batt and anything to combat power drop off

Cannons excelsior is a great ship! Very possibly the best cruiser the Federation has.

EPTW1 should take care of any power problems you might have running all cannons and turrets.. Cannons sip power compared to beams.

I'd strongly urge you in the direction of Energy Weapon Officers for this ship. One type (the most expensive type, naturally) can reduce the cooldown times on cannon attacks. You can carry CRF2 and APB1, and use your rapid fire basically as often as if you had 2 copies of it.
