This hilarious idea hit me while staring at my dreadnought.

As you can see, most shots of the dreadnought depicts the expanded main shuttle bay, so much so that the bridge had to be raised and resulted in the "box top" addition to the saucer section.

Just what the Feds need, a Flight Deck Cruiser.

(my apologies to my Klingon friends...)

I found that idea exelent, i am sorry, if that is what it take to make it on part with other cruiser!
Since it is hard to bielieve that the lance, turn rate, bo layout will ever been look at.
Something with 3 or 4 runabouts, just like the odyssey in ds9.
Just no tractor beam runabout, these things are overpowered.
That would do great to compensate all the over shortcomming.
If the akira class can have this, why the hell can a galaxy class can't!

Because the Akira class is an in-universe carrier (it's saucer is effectively one large hangar bay). The Gal-X isn't.

Decks 3 and 4 in the galaxy's saucer are almost entirely shuttlebay 1, it can hold a rather large compliment as well.

i have been posting this about the galaxy since i started posting on the forums.
it was even part of canon discussion to a carrier refit galaxy during the dominion war.
t6 cruiser? keep it, i'd rather have aux to dampers 3.
as it turns out, an intrepid would lose a fight with a connie.
and thats canon.

Federation vessels have a standard range of deck size at roughly 3.5 meters (it varies a bit, but that's a solid average number to use). That means on a ship with quantifiable volume (the saucer of a galaxy is somewhat larger than an Akira's, but close enough for comparative purpose) you're pretty readily able to come up with interior volume.

Minus the weapons pod the Akira is a 19 deck ship. 14-15 of which in the primary hull are, in full or in part, hangar space. In addition, the Akira is sourced as being capable of carrying 40+ combat craft plus several more (sources vary but it's in the 10-20+ range) support ships.

That's a hell of a lot more than a two deck shuttle bay in a Galaxy. Support craft complement alone is more than a Galaxy carries, and that's not even considering the combat squadron.

If I remember correctly from the Ed Whitefire blueprints, the Main shuttlebay on the D has a multideck maintenance/storage area under the shuttlebay itself. Plenty of room to support a squad or 2 of fighters/attack craft. And, a hangar bay would add an interesting bit of additional strategy for putting together a G-X.
