CE is a failure as far as team play goes. The highest dps ships win, like in everything else in this game. The scoring system needs to be changed so that everything a player does gives points. If a science ship grav wells shards and prevents them from going to the CE, it should give bonus points, if a cruiser heals his escort, it should give bonus points. Right now its ignore the tholians and max guns on the ce. People don't even stop shooting while it absorbs energy.
Also the CE event fails because I, like many other college students have spent the last 2-3 weeks getting ready for finals and this week and last week taking finals. It would be nice to extend the CE event one or two weeks more so that the college kids that don't have 28 hours in a day can participate.
From my experience DPS is not as important as some would say. None of my Tactical characters have got first place yet, neither has the Science character who's flying an escort right now. The two that have come first are a Science character in a Wells, and an Engineer in a Negh'Var.
This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!
DPS is not king in CE. My engie gets the first place regularly, if I stay alive for the entire event, and 3rd usually if I die. Trust me, I have a solid descent midrange dps, but nothing spectacular. I do have a nice fleet ship (Tor'kaht). I try my best to assist in shooting the shards, the Tholians and to heal others when I can. I do have a very good survivabilty for that event. But not an escort.
I had fun with CE. Just my two cents as they say.
Every game has theme events, holidays etc. I don't get your problem, sorry.
Yes, it's really brain dead. Even with a Sci vessel, I just park right next to the thing and shoot everything on auto fire. I start reversing+evasives when it starts absorbing (while still shooting everything) and get back in range once it stops. First place guaranteed almost every time. The Tholians don't even make an effort to bother me, lol.
You get points for most of that stuff you suggested and more. My most reliable first-place ships are an Ambassador configured as a healer that spends most of the time FAWing and keeping 6 different heals on cooldown, and a Vo'quv full of standard B'rels and crowd-control powers. My least reliable winners are tacs in fleet escorts that usually have the best DPS by up to half again, but don't get points for other stuff and so get 2nd or 3rd.
Yes the event could use some tweaking and everyone has their personal preferences, but when you get even the basics incorrect, you don't help the rest of your rant.
Highest DPS ship doesn't win. I have won it several times in a cruiser running Mk X common beams.. That's right, I said MK X COMMON. I have also won it with an Atrox, no DPS at all there... So Highest DPS doesn't win. It's scoring is factored on several areas which there is already a post on so go look it up.

Dude it took me like half an hour each day for three toons...and two of them have low level non fleet/rep gear that anybody can get. Half an hour each day before you go to sleep was too much to ask? LMAO...whatever dude. I'm going to think of people like you as I spend my exorbitant dill and fleet marks payout!
I'm a university student presently taking my end of second year exams in Law, and I fly a Galaxy Retrofit. The event takes me less than 10 minutes a day, and I have yet to place less than first; perhaps it's not the event that's a failure.
