I think the bigger joke is the people that expect a game to work perfectly the moment it is launched... take a chill pill guys, this is what happens to all MMORPGs
yes but tbh mate devs should bloody learn from the past and have it set up better, yes all mmos have initial issues but not like this, and the bair face lie caling it 'unexpected downtime' when it happens bang on the hours is a joke, like earlier exacty 9am pst the server died and it was unexpected? **** that its just a lie. cryptic shouldnt have been so damn cheap and ivested in a better server system
Didnt happen with me in RF Online (before they closed their NA servers) ...
Hmmm ... lemme see ... that's about all the MMO's Ive played that I can remember ...
Fallacy of inductive reasoning.
Of course it never happened in CoX... when Virtue and Freedom filled up, you were just hosed if you played on either of those servers, because it wouldn't allow any new log ins at all. Of course, they fixed that issue recently... by implementing a queue server in those instances :p And if you didn't play on those servers, it didn't mean the problem didn't exist, it just meant you could easily ignore them.
None of those other games have super high populations, except for perhaps EVE. Still, the way the servers and architecture are structured can impact how logins and player loading are handled.
Of course, you left the biggest MMO (WoW) out of the list, conveniently, which also uses a queue system during impact.
Indeed. I'm not going to whine about this in the normal sense, but paying a monthly fee for a game where I cannot log in and play when I want too is not really on. Sure, I accept that there are times when the serves crash or are under maintenance but to have to join a queue system to log in to a game which I paid upfront for in terms of the actual download and then a monthly fee is not that really that great. Right now I've been sat at #451 out of 700 for 10 minutes.
I'm hoping that the new servers/nodes aren't actually connected. If they are, then Cryptic need to apply more to allow further log ins.
/edit: I've also bought the lifetime subscription, so I'm hoping that this is just a minor blip otherwise I've already paid Cryptic for a service that is difficult to access when I WANT to play (bar emergency and planned maintenance of course).
