Hello,

I've played the game a bit now but I know there are many more experienced than I am. I am wondering if there is any reason I shouldn't make my engineer fly science ships and my science officer fly cruisers. Can someone with a lot of playtime weigh in here?

Your ship type isn't tied to your career path, so you can be a tactical officer flying a cruiser, if you so choose, or any other combination.

You can certainly fly whatever ship you want regardless of profession and do so effectivly. Aside from a few click abilities there isn't much difference in professions. Keep in mind that a tactical/escort is capable of more damage than a eng/escort and an eng/cruiser will be a better tank than tac/cruiser becuase of those clicky abilites but it's hardly game breaking.
