Mate, neither of those cards are going to do you much good, the x1950 might, I used to run oblivion okay from one, but don't fork over any more than a tenner for it. ('bout $10) Best bet might be to upgrade to one of the cheap radeon cards, 4850s run pretty much whatever you like in decent quality and cost near on nothing at all

I'll second this. OP, the 8400 is a terrible card. its a video playback card, not a gaming card. If you are going to game on an 8*** series card, go for the 8600GT with ddr3 ram

But the ATI 4850 is fantastic. As the quoted poster pointed out, it runs almost everything you throw at it in good quality, and costs next to nothing.

The problem is that the CPU will bottleneck a card like that so much, that there will be no benefit to using it over a lower end Radeon HD 4000 series card. It would be added money that would be wasted, as the price tag would go from $65 for a 4650 to $100 for a 4850.

No it wont, that card is 3 or 4years old now.
Your 8400 is a pretty poor gaming card and the radeon x1950 wont do you any favours either.

If you want to play the game at decent settings you will have to get a more up to date gaming card.

Maybe best you post your PC specs so people can help you better.

Honestly, you could upgrade your video card for a marginal improvement, but I think that your CPU is the biggest hinderance here...

Thats a 2ghz SINGLE core 64-bit processor. Well below minimum specs for STO (1.8ghz dual core, although I know of many who run the game on single core P4s 2.5ghz - 3.2ghz as well with little problem). If I were you I'd save your money for now and look towards getting a more capable machine. You can't expect the game to run smoothly with that CPU. Bottom line.

I'd agree I have the 8400 and mine runs perfectly fine on the recommended settings. I have no problems whatsoever anywhere so quite obviously the card is not the issue.

I have another computer specs are: Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00GHz
32-bit operating system 0.99GB

I didn't use that computer because I heard vista and games don't get along lol but I can always get the graphics card and ram from this computer and put in on the other if it will make a diffrence.
