Art, is art. That's all well and good.

Unfortunately, art in this game can have an impact on performance.

We can start with one of the most complained about ships with a poor turning axis points, the KDF raptor, and we can zoom ahead to ships like the Jem Heavy Escort Carrier and now the brand new Mogai Destroyer.

What do these ships have in common? Their pivot point is towards the rear, which means their fore arc is negatively impacted.

This is fine if you have massive arc weapons, but the ships above are all designed to utilize 45 degree narrow arc weapons.

In short I love my Mogai, but the rear pivot point is a real downer.

There is nothing more frustrating than having to fight with a ship's model to squeeze performance out of it.

Not to mention, it just looks really.. odd. I'd almost go as far as to say it looks stupid, since it turns like a dragster and not a ship.

Visually, this is true. But has anyone really tested? For all I know, all angles are calculated from the pivot point, not the nose or whatever.

This is correct. Firing arcs are not dependent on the location on firing points.

So... There's no plan to fix these ships' pivot axes in the foreseeable future, is it?

Just make it official and we'll stop complaining. Deal?

Cheers.

I'm still in a dinky Warbird on my Rom. With the massive wings on the Rom ships are they capable of firing from both sides at the same time, even at an angle? If, so....and you changed the scale graphically, isn't that going to change the axis point for all ships in-game?

There is a noticeable difference in the arcs after LoR release on both fed and kdf. Just above or below a target firing seems to be aft only. Well, most of the firing seems aft now anyway. Spending more time trying to get into a position to be able to fire than before.

Wait if the firing arc is based on the pivot point and the pivot point is at the stern then that actually makes their arc larger, it does cause engagement ranges to change by the length of the ship. unless you mean the firing arc should be based on the firing points.

So, short answer is pivot point has no effect on arcs. Your ship is a single point in space for all arc and turning calculations.

The Mogai's fine, can't say what the Jem'Hadar HEC is like. The Qin's a pita sometimes, though.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
