One of my favourite episodes. But look at it like this, a government 300 years ago who covered up a meeting with an Alien race and are now completely defunct in the time period pretty much means nobody even bothered to look into the reports so I doubt any Starfleet Personel of Archers time knew about the Ferengi.

By that logic, Starfleet knew Voyager was getting stuck in the Delta Quadrant on her first voyage.

It was an episode that seemed like a good idea on paper but contradicted previously recorded episodes in practice.

The military knew about the Ferengi in the 40s. It makes sense that if one alien race visited them, then others would resulting in a secret organization to track down alien technology and make sure that aliens behaved themselves. So it would result in more than just a report. So unless all this information was somehow lost, then it would end up in the hands of a group like Section 31 which might release that information to certain people after the Vulcans made official first contact.

This is absolutely a workable situation ... if the rumors about adding the Delta Quadrant (and possibly even the Gamma quadrant) to the maps are true.

A "TOS-only" map area is a workable thing. Basically just add a "temporal transwarp gate" or "temporal anomaly" somewhere on the current map and set it up so you can only use that gate/anomaly if you've equipped a 23-century vessel.

Then you're transported to a map that is exclusively for TOS.

Give it a handful of unique space and ground missions, make a few PVE missions that only involve TOS races and ships, and done!

It gives all the TOS fans a place to hang out, it gives all players additional content, it gives Cryptic and PWE an excuse to sell more ships and get our money (since we would probably need/want more 23-century ships for each faction), and it would solve the problem caused by players who want to fly old 23-century ships but feel "forced" to use 24th/25th century ships instead.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

hey all,

I did not hink this would be like this. but, for the how about not sayers, I agree with them. sto should get rid of the nx ship, all andorian ships, Vulcan d'kyr ships those being 22nd century ships. Miranda class, connies, light science vessels(oberth)class f shuttles, heavy cruisers, fleet heavy cruiers, excelsior cruiser retrofits, fleet advanced heavy cruisers, Exeter class ships they being 23rd century ships. then get rid of 21st century formal set, enterprise mirror uniforms 2160, 2160 federation costume packs t'pols uniform since those are 22nd century tos uniforms command, medical, dress, tos mirror uniforms, wrath of khan movie uniforms, motion picture uniforms since those are 23rd century not 25th century which is sto. lastly get rid of tos phaser rifles, tos phaser type 1, tos phaser type 2, tos black and white phaser type 2. they being from the 23rd century and having no place in sto..

be kind to all

Long ago I proposed the idea of era specific shards of STO, with some specific rule sets like that of an RP server, based on the TOS, TWOK and TNG/DS9/VOY eras.

The idea was to produce authentic locations for those who desire a particular era of Trek over the 2409 extrapolation.

For example, a TOS era shard might look like this:

- TOS era only costume restriction (includes Mirror Universe variants and generic uniforms that pass for TOS era)

- TOS era only weapons

- Starbases which have outward appearance of Deep Space Station K-7. Interiors would have a distinct TOS feel.

- Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan playable

- Starter ships would be TOS era Miranda, as described in Star Trek: Vanguard. Introduce new TOS era mid level designs based on the Franz Tech Manual. Top of the line ships would be the Connie and the Connie Dreadnought variant.

- Romulans would use the Warbirds and D-7, Klingons would use BoP, Raptors and D-7.

- Heavy focus on Klingons and Romulans as adversaries. Encounters with the Gorn frequent. Storyline based around Vanguard, etc. The TOS era being such an iconic setting, with natural clear divisions, PVP is ideal for this kind of setting.

- Unique restrictions on gear, such as no personal shields. Weapons would have accuracy reduced to compensate for lack of shield defense.

- Occasional run-ins with previously unencountered species (Cardassians, Borg, Ferengi, etc) but species left unidentified, ala the Ferengi encounter in ENT.

For me anyway, the idea of an era specific shard is fantastic. I would truly enjoy playing an STO entirely based in the Golden Age of Starfleet, when Starfleet officers were explorers, not intergalactic policemen and Halo Master Chief Clone Trooper wannabes.

Yeah please do an RP server and move all these kind of threads into a specific rp forum. Thanks.

Keep it completely separate from the current server. Level cap all characters at 20 and only have TOS ships available. They could offer a few more TOS era ship and player equipment, even if it is just taking existing weapons and re-naming them. Content wise would be nowhere near as much as the main server. Perhaps a few story arcs and some STF style missions at the endgame, like a counter offensive against a Klingon fleet or something.

It wouldn't be the full game by any means, but enough for players who want to jaunt around in the TOS era for a few hours between grinding.
You lack imagination. Although I do agree that a separate server would be required, and most welcomed.

Business end-wise, that will require a server just for this portion (that not everyone would use) more development work for content and increased moderation in-game, while limiting what players game play and use in-game. When player-ship drops, or needs of the prime server/game increases, it is guaranteed that this would be the first to go because its limited in player scope.

Why not just have someone else just make a new game and play that?

This is the best way to have a TOS zone. The most we can get as far as TOS is TOS related missions, uniforms, and Foundry missions. Although, chances are that any TOS MMO would be set in the JJ universe and then it wouldn't really be a TOS MMO.

Personally, I think that the only way a TOS MMO would exist is if someone created Private Server technology for it. Cryptic could rent their resources to a company willing to do something like this or individuals so an individual could pay $10,000 a year to Cryptic to get Cryptic's resources that deal with the 23rd Century like npcs, weapons, ships, and uniforms. Cryptic's Star Trek MMO seems to be stuck in the early 25th Century with the odd trip to the 23rd Century so it doesn't look like they will have a zone set in the 23rd Century that would be unavailable to certain players.
