# 1 Handedness?

It would be nice, for purely cosmetic reasons, to have the ability to choose whether your captain and bridge officers are right-handed or left-handed (or even ambidextrous). I don't believe I've ever seen this addressed in any game, ever.

We've certainly seen left-handed characters in Star Trek:
  • Data - Brent Spiner is a leftie, and I believe you'll find that Data behaves as a leftie most of the time.
  • Worf - Not sure about this one. Michael Dorn is left-handed, but I'm not sure if Worf appears the same.
  • Ezri Dax - I've seen her holding a TR-116 rifle left-handed, not sure how consistent she is.

Just a thought, to add a little variety to character design.

For the record, I'm right-handed. The idea just popped into my head while I was updating some Romulan Republic officer uniforms, putting PADDs on their left wrists.
Saving the universe ... one game at a time.

Not that I don't disagree, but that'd require a lot of work for what would mainly be a cosmetic feature. New animations would need made, new tech would need to be made to accomodate preferential limb usage for every character and bridge officer in the game. No small task.

But I do agree that it would be nice to see southpaws represented.

Couldn't you just mirror the animation?

So inhumane superweapons, mass murder, and canon nonsense is okay, but speedos are too much for some people.

The Cryptic engine isn't Star Trek technology. You can't just reverse the polarity and it's fixed.

You should be able to mirror the animation by plugging in the opposite values. Have you never used an animation program before?

I have, and on paper what you say sounds perfectly reasonable. But in reality it isn't that simple. The Cryptic engine wasn't really designed with 'mirrored' animations in mind. A lot of what we think is simple is actually a monstrosity of programming work.
