So, he took advantage of an unknown game exploit, and you guys rewarded him for doing so?

How is that fair exactly?

After looking up 'demorecord' in Google, I discovered that it dealt with exploiting chatbox commands.

How many people would have known that?

Just curious.

Demorecord is in no way an exploit, and throughout the game's history, Devs have posted about how to use it, as well as tips and technique advice for it. Also, the start/stop chat commands for a demo recording is open to all players, and always has been. Info: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Demorecord

Maybe you could look up how to use it. You could then create magnificent videos like such talented people as Starfish1. (Instead of accusing people of exploiting a known system.)
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix: Bring in the Allegiance class
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia: Design that long overdue Tier 5 C-Store Raptor
Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var: Give us Asylums for Romulans

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

I have been playing the game for a year and a half, and this is the first time I heard about this feature. The only chatbox command I know is '/stuck'.

Even though there is a wiki page, you cannot assume 'everyone' is going to know about its existence. Unless someone is able to read your minds, the feature could have gone unnoticed by other players.

Please, please add this into the next screenshot competition blog.

Thank you.

Totally understand, though I was coming at it from the "is it in-game?" angle.
Sure demo record uses the games rendering engine and program to run, but during a recordings playback you're not actually 'playing the game'. So are you actually still in it?

From that perspective, in my eyes it is an altered shot, getting angles and view points not otherwise available to regular players actually playing the game. If that makes sense.

If demo record is legitimate, all good, just let contestants know so its an even playing field
Dislike the forum theme? Try THIS. Dislike the STO home page? Try THIS.
Devs, need Fleet Orion Marauder and Dacoit please! :-)
