How about replacing the speed bonus on EPtE with an inertia rating bonus (so that it gives +engine power, +inertia, +turn)? If Trek ships have entire systems dedicated to modifying the apparent effect of inertia on the crew, why not use those to assist the impulse engines in changing the vessels movement?

Would be nifty if certain things were balanced in of themselves like in other games...

You know, like adding Armor slowed the ship. Increasing the inertial field made the target easier to hit. Reducing structural health to increase inertia and speed.

Those kind of things - that things were...oh I don't know...you know?

But we've got more magic going on than anything.

Willard gets on a ship and suddenly it's got 5% more hull hp? Are they saying Willard's a fat ass?

I think the fleet RCS accelerators should have had a variant with an inertia bonus. That would give players a choice between more damage resistance or better maneuverability.
