I've always felt that their existence was just an oversight. It could also be that at one time we were going to be able to reuse the same map multiple times in the storyline. Either way, however, it has never served a functional purpose.

Well... at one time we COULD try to reuse a map. Maybe it's related to that? not that that feature ever worked. But it looked like it worked until you tried to play the mission.

My brother told me about a foundry mission he played where he came to a point where he just kept fighting an enemy ship to the point of a stalemate for like 1 hour before he finally was destroyed. Upon respawning, the story had advanced. As if part of the story meant having to be destroyed. And once he respawned, he was at a totally different map.

Anyone know what mission he was referring to?

And can anyone explain if doing all that is possible for a foundry author? Because I have been tossing it around in my head trying to figure out how to do that in the foundry but can't seem to link it all together.

The spawn points topic made me think of that.

That's a trick involving respawn points. You can use those to spawn the player in a location that they have never been to, an easy example is on the other side of a wall they can't bypass. IIRC the dialog you were talking about was something based on a location trigger.

I like the multiple spawn points in New Romulus. Easy way to get up from the octopus ditch by changing maps.

FYI - I'm drunk, sorry for calling them octopi.
