You could always put the cruisers in general away for a while, pull out an escort for a change of pace, a Mirror Universe cheapie or hit the C-Store for something like the Armitage or Khyzon. Heck, even get really unique and do a beamscort.

ok got guys in my fleet tellin me the jem'hadar dread is only worth using if you have the advanced bug ship pets, which you can only buy if you already have the bug ship escort .... seems kinda BS to me puttin that restriction on items.

so looks like that option maybe out the window ?

Well, it's still the same ship, it's just the fighter pets are crappy. They die easily and don't pump out the dps of many other fighters. The bug ship pets is far superior just because it's a frigate. Hardly worth the price though.

Elite bug pet use rapid fire III with dual polarons followed up with normal quantum torp. Very good spike dmg compared to most pets.

But... elite Fer'jai pet use rapid fire III with dual antiprotons followed up with heavy torp III with tricobalt torp. Spike is far bigger. Oh and you don't need to buy bug ship.

So yeah, the bug pet cost you an arm and a leg, for very good results, but not quite the best. Some people think it's worth it because it's a bug.

oh right, so you're saying with the elite pets from the fleet store, its still as good if not slightly "better" than having the advanced bug pets, meaning its still very much on the table as viable ship.

the trend im starting to see from this forum thread though is carrier pets are crap for pvp ?

That wasn't what I meant. The elite bug pet isn't available either unless you own a bug. So yeah, not worth it unless you're loaded, lol.

The major complaints for carrier pets in pvp are:
-You don't exert as much control over them as guns.
-Fighters die easily to scatter volley, faw, or any aoe effect that defines current state of pvp in sto. Fed side don't have frig pets.

I would like to try nukara pets, swarmers do ok for me. You might want a couple doffs to reduce launch times. Elite scorps are great for pve.

I'd been a Cruiser captain all the way through the game, but fancied a change and so got myself a Temporal Destroyer - once you get used to flying a ship that's so maneuverable compared to a big Cruiser, it's awesome.

I still love my big ships and always will, but if you're going to go for something new then I'd recommend trying something a little different and beyond your "comfort zone" if that makes sense.

I would second the Mobius Temporal Destroyer as a great ship. It has an LTC universal station so you've got very good flexibility with more durability than the Advanced Escort.

For maximum shiny effects, pair it up with the full Temporal Warfare Set (available from the Lobi store) for a rainbow beam, a sparking miniature sun-torpedo that slows down time as it passes, and a pretty good console that's useful on any ship.
