The defrag discussion is pointless. It can and has fixed performance issues for me countless times, but I am also aware it does not actually FIX anything. I have just over 2tb of storage, and my 600Gb RAID 0 system disk/s are getting pretty full, result? System = sluggish, especially at startup or program opening. Run a defrag, and hey presto! a SLIGHT improvement!
Truth is, until MAcroSoft switch over to a journalled type filesystem (unlikely to happen ANY time soon), like that of Macs and Linux machines, it will always be an inefficient OS. Don't get me wrong, I am loving Win7 64bit, but it ain't perfect. I'd still rather use it than Linux or MacOS, both of which are a pain in the neck to integrate with networks running predominantly Windows-based machines.(Sorry, sore subject atm.)
Btw, I have also had the Ship/Human mixups, disconnects, inability to login etc. All on fibre-optic broadband, with a C2Quad, 8Gb RAM, and stably overclocked Radeon 4890, so if I'm getting these errors, its quite conceivable that these problems are server-side.
But, to be fair, they have gone from 0 to literally 10's of thousands of players in a few short weeks, and the game is still Beta-stage, so one can't be that harsh towards Cryptic, I am sure they are doing their best.
Shaping up to be a cool game though, although not finished yet, will DEFINITELY be buying it at some point AFTER release. (I actually wish there were more open Beta's for games around, I get to help the developers, and get to try b4 I buy, also saves me wasting bandwidth DL'ing crap games, as I only buy those that I try in some way first, been burned too many times by lazy developers!)
