We all need to calm down a bit. This is a known unknown. An unexpected expectation. We all expect the servers to go down. A LOT. Especially during peak times (think Saturday afternoons when a good chunk of the USA is covered in snow). It's okay ... breathe deep.
Yes, this is a fanboi post. My first. The devs did an amazing game and I plan on playing for ages and ages.
But all this negativity on the forums brings me down. All these expectations. It's 2010. WoW was 6 years ago. We shouldn't have to endure these issues with every MMO launch. Blah ... blah ... BLAH.
We live ... in AMAZING time. I had a rotary phone growing up. We used phone books and encyclopedias. I was born in 1981. Not 1941. This is an amazing time. My internet ... isn't hooked up to a phone line or cable. Somehow, miraculously, this one router can move megabytes with nothing more then a power source. We are BEAMING signals FROM OUTER SPACE and back. We are sending pictures to each other around the damn world.
Porn and information have never been more readily avaliable. What did our parents do when they wanted to see some lactating asian fetish porn? They were almost completely out of luck, is what! And here we are.
But I digress ...
An MMO is the bringing together of thousands upon THOUSANDS of people. From the United States to German to Austrila. On to one server. The reason why there are issues in every MMO launch is because IT'S NOT EASY. I'm not a programmer. But I can't even fathom the logistics in pulling something like this off.
It's a stunning, mesmerising time to be alive. This MMO is truly a work of ART. The design, the codes, the hardware ... it all comes together to form these beautiful pictures on your computer screen in East Bumbleton and in Dublin and in Rio.
