This is going to be so helpful Trace, thank you!

One extremely minor point that I include only for the sake of completeness, in the very first posting you state the following:

"The ONLY choices you are locked into at character creation are your race, your traits, and your career path (tactical, engineering, science). Everything else you can change later, including the type of ship you fly."

Technically, we're also locked into our choice of gender as well as species, traits, etc.

Ranks as in the ones you progress through in game?

Those are:

Ensign (tutorial)
Lieutenant (Tier 1)
Lieutenant Commander (Tier 2)
Commander (Tier 3)
Captain (Tier 4)
Admiral (Tier 5)

Each rank has 10 grades - so you start at Lieutenant 1 then progress to Lieutenant 10, and then at "11" you get promoted to Lieutenant Commander. The only exception to this is Admiral - the game is currently capped at Admiral 5.
