Am i the only one that uses them? i think they are pretty good.. a couple of minor tweaks and they would be great. What are your opinions on them?
Mines are very controversial. I personally don't like them at all. Not of course because of anything the mines do/did, but the people who use them. Mine spamming was a big issue in CB/OB and continues to be. They clutter the UI making it hard to target anything and then there are the exploits that can take place because of them.
They're super-effective. My engineer tank from beta used them every chance he got. I'm trying to recreate the character in headstart.
Here's why they work so well: A)They knock out boarding parties, torpedos, energy siphons, etc. B)If you do the typical head on attack where you pass over the enemy you can have that enemy fly into a series of mines with no front shield(if you stripped it on the first pass), and the mines do serious damage without a shield. Both of these work in pvp almost as well as pve, which surprised me. I'm not sure if that's because it's a great strategy, or because most of my opponents suck.
Also, if you're fleeing in pvp, it's fun to force the enemy to fly through 30 mines or so.
I like Mines. They replace my rear phaser array, so that as I pass on top of an enemy in a strafing run and my front-facing weapons are no longer useful, I drop mines right on them and blow them to bits. Fun fun. They're a little weak, IMO.
