# 1 Away Team Boffs
07-30-2014, 04:19 AM
I know a lot of people don't like or do ground stuff, but I'm looking to put together a decent away team.

Which are the best races and traits for an away team setup?

I'm a tac, so I usually take a sci/healer and an eng for things like the Dinozone.

I have my bridge crew sorted, so I'm specifically looking for ground.

One of my favorites for ground crew is the Jem'Hadar boff from the last but one Dominion FE (Facility 2048?). I find him pretty resilient and mental if you load him up with the Jem'Hadar weapon packs.

You should think about Tovan Khev. He is actually an excellent ground boff. I gave him a Bruce Willis Die Hard look, with Lunge and Photon grenade. He rocks and since everybody hates him ,you do make a presence with him on the block.

If your Rom is KDF, you can also look at the other races. Overall KDF seems to me better on the ground, especially with an oofensive play style.

Seconding the Jem'Hadar Boff. He's great, and only gets better if you feed him ketrecel white. Unfortunately, you can only have one of him, and he only comes in Tactical.

Romulans can get the Plasma weapon specialist traits which give them a rather significant damage boost when using plasma weapons. I just don't use it because I resent being pigeonholed as the 'plasma faction'

Nelen Exil, the Voth Boff you get at T5 Dyson rep is also quite good, and he can self-resurrect as well. Once again, limited to one Voth Boff, and only comes in Sci.

I have to agree with previous posters on the jem'hadir( sp?) tac boff as others have stated along with the voth science boff from the dyson rep. Another person I've found useful and sometimes overlooked is the romulan D'vex that you pick up through the romulan story missions. He's an engineer and has some very interesting traits both for ground and space. If you were seeking a second sci boff to run on the ground team. You could also look at the liberated borg science boff from the omega ground STF ( I forget which stf it is off hand ) . Or the lobi store's liberated romulan borg who is also science.

Borg BOFF is pretty handy, Fairly easy to get too, but not customisable which is a major drawback

Catians have decent performance I find

I've heard that Bajorans make good medics and that Vulcans can be pretty useful too.

Was wondering if Reman's had any useful traits?

My standard Dyson BZ 2 man team is a medic and an engineer for shield heals. In a full away team I usually take a couple of tacs with me too.

Romulans and Remans actually make pretty good Away Team BoFF's. They can actually have a good range of many of the better ground traits. But Soldier and Plasma Weapon Specialist are good ones if you can find them.

Also Alien BoFF''s can come with a range of pretty decent traits, and they can be customized to look like pretty much any race (for those that like to RP their crew)

BTW, I think the Wiki is a bit outdated, because there are several Traits which I'm almost positive I've seen on certain BoFF's, that the Wiki says are not available (like Soldier on a Rom BoFF) But regardless, a quick browse through the Exchange, and checking traits is a good idea, Don't just grab the cheapest variant, because sometimes, for only a little more EC, you can find a variant with much better traits ...
Please ... Make it so ...!

Yeah it's just a question of getting the right combination of traits and knowing which species the more desirable traits are specific to

honestly the way ground combat is now, just go with who you think is cooler. Ground combat is mostly really easy and all boffs are just as good if you give them good gear.

One good boff that no one has mentioned yet is the special Reman you get during the Featured ep reruns. He has two unique abilities, a mind blast that deals good dmg to one target and an AoE knock-back. Plus he has a cool looking cape.
