God knows what you could do with a good weapon setup Oo
as I said earlier, you can get beam weapons to keep firing 100% of the time if you play it properly. sure in a fleet action that may mean that your not shooting the same target, but the point still stands.
This was because I found this really god cannons with a very wide angle of attack so I could unload both phasers and the cannons on my enemys while circeling them.
If you like to do "strafing runs" more, then you may want to replace the rear phasers with a turret, it wont do as much damage but it will be able to fire forward, so it balances out.
Also, one player I did a few missions with swore by ALL forward facing cannons and a mine launcher in the rear. You would be able to do very high "burst" damage but against enemy battleships it would take forever to kill them without torpedos.
Edit: Looks like Dalnar beat me to it! But I forgot to mention this was on the Federation side, my Klingon Bird of Prey was a whole different animal.
there is no such thing as a wide firing arc cannon.
single cannons have a fairly large arc, can't remember the number but it was either 90 or 180 degrees, so yes they do have a fairly large arc
singles are 90, but I would not describe that as fairly large. Medium maybe, but 25% of the complete arc is not by any definition a majority or 'large'
Well its a choice, a turret with rapid fire is kinda dead at point blank range. It really depends on your play style....and yes without beam overload you sacrifice dmg if you take beams, with it, you just have to play smart (aka use weapon battery after the overload)..
I run Plasma Dual heavy cannons mk IV, Phaser Dual Heavy cannons mk III and a quantum torpedo launcher mk III, with a phaser turret on the back.
I run cannon rapid fire, torpedo high yield and target shield subsystems.
Jam sensors, auto fire cannons/turret, fire a torp, then press rapid fire/high yield and fire until enemy shields look like they are about cripple and fire torps.
anyone know where to find quantum torpedo launchers? I have never seen any aside from the exchange
The exchange. I had close to 60K credits when I hit 11, got 2 Mk IV cannons, Mk III turret, Mk IV quantum and plasma torps(don't really like the plasma), plus a few decent consoles and an engine upgrade.
