Did they turn off auto teaming?

nope there's a setting to allow you choose to have it on or off

I find I get alot more loot going solo and missions take about the same amount of time for the most part

Shorter for me... I don't have to wait at the end of chain missions where someone AFK's while the rest of the group kills the space ships only to get to the second part where you have to beam to the world... and then get stuck waiting on the idiot letting you do all the work.

Turned mine off on day 1. I group with friends, and if people ask me to group I will, but I can't stand open groups.

I think it may auto turn off once you get to a certain level. I remember not turning it off in beta, but once I got to a certain level it turned itself off.

I think its on for the first levels so that it groups you with people and you don't have 1 person in 50 different instances.

Makes it better for the huge influx of people at the beginning, then when they start to spread out, it turns it off.

Once you are past the 1st few quests. The teaming slows down. Players get spread out a bit and less missions start close to the time you start yours. So you will see less and less auto-teaming as you get higher in level.
