# 1 Recon Science Vessels useless?
02-01-2010, 10:06 AM
I was looking over Suricata's ship tier chart, planning out my future advancement, and it seems to me based on the numbers available that nearly everyone would probably want to skip over the Recon Science Vessels and go straight for a Deepspace Science Vessel.

The DSSV ships have more crew, are faster and more maneuverable, and are equal in nearly every other way (with of course one ensign-level tac/eng difference).

Am I missing something? Is there something else that will make the RSV ships more appealing?

While I can appreciate Suricata's work in creating their listing it does seem to differentiate from what is listed on the official site http://www.startrekonline.com/ships-index .

how can you compare the time layed out chart of ships with an incomplete list that cryptic didn't bother to finish. I haven't seen that cryptic page updated in months.

You are both probably missing something. I think it is too early to take Suricata's chart as set in stone facts. I think right now he is working on getting the pictures in there and probably waiting a bit to get the stats updated. He doesn't have anything official to go on so until people start reaching those levels it's just a best guess from beta I believe.

I haven't looked at this specifically, but up in the area where you requisition your ship there are computers around the edge, one for each tier of ship.

It gives you the stats on each ship, and I think the BoFF layout/ranks I beleive.

Bengland I'm not knocking Suricata's work, I like it. However based on the information available on the site it doesn't match. The information we have is that there are 5 tiers of ships. The first being the starter Miranda type. We also know that the contest ship that was named by players is a tier 5 ship. Going off of that information it looks as though Suricata's list has an extra column of ship listed. However I'll throw you a bone and admit that there could be a secret 6th tier that will be released at a later date.

His chart does match the in game information how ever. And to answer the OP's question the recon is more like an escort with the extra Tac boff slot and tac console. The Deep space is more like a cruiser with an extra engineer bof slot and console. I believe however that the devs messed up and gave the deep space a better turning radius when in fact that should have gone to the recon. So you are correct the deepsace has more crew and better turning.

No, it's correct. The final tier has 6 ship types instead of 3.

The Recon does in fact turn much better in game. ATM it isn't exactly clear how the inertia and tun rate interact with each other (or if turn rate is even a real stat anymore) As the game is currently you're best bet for comparing manuverability is to look at the inertia stat exclusively until we can figure out if turn rate really exists and what it currently is.

Recon turns almost as well as the t3 (Akria style) Escort, while Deep Space feels more like a t2 or 3 crusier. (not a brick like t4/5 crusiers, but certianly not an escort by any means)

That Chart is in no way accurate, if you want the real stats look at them in the game in the earth spacedock, where you can see them in the room above the place where you customize your ship.

Recon Science vessels are very different from deep space science vessels. They are a bit smaller, yes, but they have more tactical consoles and more tactical officers, but not as many engineering officer and consoles.

Basicly both are equally good at science stuff but one is also decent at tactical and one is also decent at engineering.

Acctually all Tier 5 ships are set up that way. They are all really good at their main objective, and decent at one of the others. Like a Starcruiser is good at engineering and decent at science while an assault cruiser is good at engineering and decent at tactical and so on.
