Would be nice if atleast the useless skills at end game get addressed if they dont revert back to the unlimited skill points like what was posted in that 5000 post thread we had in beta :-p

Cryptic can you atleast give some of us your stance on this. Spending these skills points could be a damned if you do damned if you dont situation if a patch changes the skills or not

I think Cryptic simply realized that there wouldn't be enough distinction between different captains unless they cap the skillpoints somehow, which I think is a perfectly valid concern. Unlike that other space game where you can get unlimited skillpoints there simply isn't enough skills in this game to prevent someone from learning them all.

They just "overcapped" the points I think. Only being able to max a single admiral skill is just a total joke. It really robs me of a lot of long term motivation.

I mean, on the one hand, I don't think they should cap skillpoints so drastically. On the other hand, I think that there have to be tough choices somewhere during your character development, and I'm not really seeing that right now.

You don't have to dismiss your old ship everytime you upgrade. Simply give your old ship a placeholder name and give your new ship the same name as your old one.

It would be fairly easy to ensure that there are more skills. An ability to affect one's own accuracy in both space and ground could be wildly helpful. Ones that improve verys pecific abilities such as turning ability on the ship. Even allow a person to spend skill points on an individual weapon so that it becomes personalized and eventually use the crafting system to upgrade it as needed. Capping the SP system is a joke right now, I'm afraid to spend any points when I don't even have know enough knowledge of what I'm doing.

What would better is say, that the lowest tiers of skills has unlimited SP gain, while higher ones instead can only have so many points put into it. Keep the cap where it is but the first two tiers of skills have no bearing on the cap itself. And throw in a few epic missions that give you items that allow you 'master' a skill set for a huge bonus on it.

On further thought.

Introduce some rare items

Cybernetic Neural Processor I, II, III, IV, V
Bind on Equip/One use Item
Basically is an item that once spent will allow a person to spend SP on one skill regardless of their Cap status.. It has a level for each tier of skills and it will only work for that level.

Cybernetic Neural Node I, II, III, IV, V
Bind on Equip/One use Item
Even rarer that the Processor, these will allow the user to master one skill that has all 9 levels acquired for say +100% to that skill's bonus, thus allowing one to Master that skill set. Getting these would probably take some sort of epic quest, and for the higher tiered skills even harder to get. Skill gets a blue color instead of the normal green.

Cybernetic Neural Core I, II, III, IV, V
Exactly the same as the Neural Node for +100% but it only works for skills that have been enhance with the Neural Node. So the total for the enhanced skill would be +200%. Skill gets a Red color instead of the normal Blue. Lets call this ability to become a skill Grandmaster.

From what I had heard these skills carry over and effect the later skills. Like you'd recieve bonuses to any Escort ship for having both Advanced Escort Training and Heavy Escort Training. Could be wrong though, I'm not sure even Cryptic knows for sure.

SKILL CAP 60700 POINTS. Stupidest decision in a long long long line of stupid changes they made to this game during beta. This game was DESIGNED for unlimited skill points. It now has a cap. Skills that made sense to implement before, now HURT the player that buys them. That is all.

edit: p.s. those intermediate ship handling skills really really make the ship handle a lot better too. shame on cryptic for putting skills in game that will deliberately gimp a player at max level though with no retcon in sight. (and when retcons get here, expect to pay AT LEAST 15 dollars for them)
Why should I expect to pay 15 dollars for them? I have played champions and received many of them for free. You sound pretty bitter about this.
