# 1 Career's + ships

I'm kind of lost with these mixing and matching options.
What has the bigger influence your class or your ship type?
From what I gather if I have a tactical character in a science vessel, I would be more of a support type ship with some tactical options that my character brings to the table. Is that correct?

The career you chose has a bigger influence in the ground game than space.

Ship choice and skill choice are what matter in space.

Escorts- Burst Damage

Cruisers- Tank/Sustained Damage

Science- Buff/Debuff Heals

That said there are certain abilities for space combat that are dependent on your career.

For space combat, everyone has access to the same player skills. The free abilities you get every 5 levels depand on your branch, although the first couple are common to all. Also, your ability to train your BOs in Rank III abilities depends on branch.

So: at higher levels, service branch DOES have some impact on how well you can use a given type of ship.

I plan on mixing it up due to my like/dislike of center ships. I have a Tactical office. Currently in a Science T2 ship. At Tier 3 I plan on going to Escorts (Either Akira or Steamrunner). At T4 I am thinking of going Galaxy class cruiser. For T5 I will probably have a few as I like the Sovereign and Luna classes.
