Earlier today I came in first 5 times in a row in the Laurentian Klingon fleet battle.. in a SCIENCE vessel.
All I can say is you have to learn to pick and choose your BoFF's, Ship Equipment, and Skills to compliment each other.. you cant be running around with a hodgepodge of things that "Sound Good"
Here's how I roll in my Science Ship:
1 Photon Torpedo Tube (front loaded for PvE, Rear Loaded for PvP as the Klingons seem to think its safe to attack from behind:p)
Turrets to fill ALL other weapon slots (Yes.. the LOW DPS 360 degree firing arc turrets.. get the best MK you can get)
You WILL need and EPS Flow Regulator to keep the juice flowing to your Turrets.. otherwise you'll quickly be down to 10-15 weapons power wondering why your not doing any decent DPS!
I'm not gonna give the rest of the setup away.. but suffice to say I picked skills that complement the above weapon loadout, and I also picked BoFF powers to boost my survivability and DPS.
Now, some would say: Why do this in a Science ship? Wouldn't an Escort work better for a cannon build? and I say to that.. I LIKE science abilities more then I like tactical abilites.. so I NEED science stations for them.
I'll remember those words the next time you are getting owned by some uber vessel.
The problem steams from the game only counting DPS. Let's keep the topic about that, and not how to get more DPS out of a ship class that is designed for aiding others..
i am doing top DPS as a sci officer, in a sci ship with 3 SCI officer BO powers that HEAL, shield xfer 1, shield xfer 2, sci team 1
i heal and DPS and all three SCI BO slots are healing, i could even drop power to shields, and pick up engern team, and drop my fire at will, pick up tactical team. and i would still be top DPS wile aiding others. just get out of the mind set that your SCI ship will never match escort DPS and you will out DPS most others.
i also have no problm doing solo missions where i have to kill a big ship at the end...
I joined one of those big space missions where there was like 20 people killing 60 of x things, 36 of x 12 of x and 1 boss. at the end it shows the statistics for the battle which I assume is DPS? Anyway, im running nothing special in a science vessel and was 3rd on that list and barely missed 2nd & 1st. However, the entire time I was fighting non stop purely to try and top the leaderboard (you know, get to enemy asap, spam every weapon & really focus on turning sideways for aft weapons, stay on the unshielded side.. all of the non button-mashing tactics).. I can only assume that the 1st & 2nd place people were fighting casually...
Yzangard, I was definitely at Lt Cmdr, I used the required SP. I could buy and fly my ship right away. But now that I think about it, there was something weird about the conversation with Adm Quinn, like something didn't register right. Maybe a bug? I noticed the quest in my log later on, and opened it again, where he said more and gave me more SP. I wonder if I go back to requisitions if there will be 1cr ships there? I'd laugh my ass off!
In case anyone saw my posts earlier, this is exactly what happened! I somehow borked the quest progression through Adm Quinn, and had to pay full price for my first ship. The upside? I picked up an escort for a buck!
