The game doesn't actually start until tonight at midnight. Now, if the servers still go down a few times a day or for hours upon hours at a time, yeah... I'm with ya. But until that time, just remember, it was a freebie. They didn't have to let you play at all, yet!
You do realize that by preordering you provided them with capital which they use to show the business end that the game will be profitable; that is the reason preorders exist.

You are actually doing them quite a favor by committing to the game in pre launch state, a favor that can amount to quite a lot of money for them.

The fact that they offer minor trinkets for that favor, and that those trinkets were not even available in headstart, and that headstart was dysfunctional, is not what I'd call positive.

or was it a way for them to stress test servers because they rushed it to market...

I too am tired of hearing "this is how this works" posts. This game has crashed on me so many times, and that doesn't include server downtime. Its not like I'm using a old computer either:

i5 650-bumped to 3.7ghz
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P
XFX RADEON HD 5770 1 GB
WD 1TB 7200rpm 32mb
WD 320GB 7200rpm 16mb
OCZ 4GB DDR3-1600

When its playing it plays beautifully. But crashes on away missions seems to be my hang up. Its not like I'm always in battle either. Hell it crashes on SB1 too. These are bugs that should have been caught and fixed. I have a lifetime sub too. Going from today...16 months is 486 days, 2 hrs a day downtime is 972 hrs. That equals 40.5 days of down time. That's over a month to downtime. If things continue this way.
Try putting your machine back to stock clocks. If its hanging up, it sounds like your comp is struggling somewhere

I agree with the OP, 2 hours does not constitute "brief maintenance". Especially not when its in the middle of EU prime time.

I realise that the customer base is probably majority US, but that's not an excuse to ruin every one else's play time.

If things are going to carry on like this then either the maintenance time should be moved to a timeslot outside of EU / US prime time, or they should create separate servers for each zone.

So I feel a bit jipped by headstart. Oh, and you can spare me your comments on "this is how MMO's work". It isn't. For the few headstarts that have existed (of which I have been in all), this is the first one where the servers are down more than up.

I am praying that this isn't foreshadowing what's to come. I love the game, when I can play it, but all these "unexpected downtimes" are out of control. It's really starting to bum us ST Fanbois out so I can imagine the effect it will have on new players tomorrow.

Anyone else feeling a little jipped? Someone in a different thread wondered if they would do anything special for all of us that have been so patient during all these downtimes...seems fitting especially for us lifers that put our money and trust where our mouths are.
ummm you feel jipped for a headstart you did not pay for? This was just a couple days of free time. I wouldnt actually feel to jipped lol. And no i didnt say this is how MMO's work but you cant really feel jipped for something you didnt even purchase LOL this thread is fail back of the line

Something I didn't purchase? Really? Let me do the math on this:

1x Lifetime sub = $240
1x Amazon order = $52
1x Walmart CE = $84
====================
$376 - that is a bit more than zero.

I've never spent this much on a game before but I am a huge ST fan and I love MMOs. I really liked CoH and CoV so I took a chance on this game. Again, I don't regret it but I feel like I put a lot of trust into Cryptic and they really fell short on headstart.

As stated by other posters, there is no rule saying Cryptic needs to have 24/7 uptime from today on. That is there choice but that is the beauty of a free market. If they keep that up there will be consequences and even hardcore ST fans will be turned away. I'm guessing they don't want that BECAUSE they are a corporation. Their goal is to maximize profits by maximizing subscribers. You don't do this by servers crashing constantly. Their goal is 24/7 server uptime.

As a side note, headstart is live. As soon as your data is saved for live play the game is live.

Yeah....sorry to admit this too, but that's exactly what it felt like.

I hope there is something. I mentioned it in another thread, and it would only seem right. Yeah, I got a head-start as I'm T2 now, so you could call it that, but I could have been much farther ahead and I could have done without the disconnects and logon queue debacle.

Well I can't be in too much of a rush to get ahead though. I'm not expecting a massive ton of content so I just better sit back and enjoy the ride more casually.

I expected the downtime. My beef is how Atari didn't authorize/arrange for retailers to let their preorders have their retail boxes/downloads and retail keys available for headstart.

I'll probably end up deleting my two characters and just transferring non bound items and all their credits to my new characters with their preorders goodies. Between RL and downtime, I'm only losing about 10 hours of progress on both characters combined.

I think this would go a long way to restore a bit of good faith with the player base. Again, it's not the end of the world since I have a lifer but I have to be honest; I'm starting to wonder if this was a bad idea. Depending on how this life sub goes I may or may not ever do this again...especially with cryptic. I'm guessing they don't want to turn off guys like me (and there are a bunch of us out there) off to spending this kind of money on their games.

lol...i've been waiting to spend my points on my BOs because of this too. I have the walmart pre order and wonder if the 500 points will be able to be applied to my existing toons. Not that 500 is a lot or anything but...would be nice.
