Recon and Deepspace are alternative ship types, i.e. you have double the amount of ship classes at T5. At T5, every ship type (TAC, ENG, SCI) has two sets of 3 classes, and the sets have slightly different stats and BO slots, so you can choose between slightly different base configurations to then customize upon.

In other words: In T5 there is twice the amount of ship classes to choose from.

That would be good advice were it not for the changes to the skill system; itís impossible to remain fluid, at present no respec options are available, and while I am sure we will have the option to pay for one through the c-store as some point, itís not enough to switch out and experiment with builds. Because we have to spend points on skills in order to advance, players need an idea of what path they intend to take as soon as they hit Lt cmdr, as that is where the skills applying to ship paths diverge and we really do not have enough skill points under the current system to make mistakes or multiclass effectively. While it is certainly possible free respecs will be available we cannot count on that being the case until it happens.

Well trust me ... I was a WoW GM well before BWL was patched in and the things that changed after that were HUGE. I would bet a lot of money that the option to respec is just around the corner for Cryptic. I don't have a lot of history with Cryptic as an MMO developer but I have heard through the mundane grape fine that the microtransaction for a respec will be along side a harder yet equally available ability to earn a respec.

Don't take me word for it. As a matter of fact just pretend that everything I'm saying is hearsay ... because it is. But if Cryptic is a genuine developer then just believer that the ability to respec is around the corner.

Keep in mind I did cancel my pre-order for this game, however. :p I need another drink ... BARKEEP! Another double Captain and Coke! LAzy sod!

I've been mystified by the information indicating that Recon SVs had a slower turn rate than DS SVs, since the name of the Recon ships clearly indicates they were intended more for a combat role than an exploration role. So I appreciate the first hand reporting that the Recon ships do, in fact, turn faster.

Remember that games are not canon ... no matter what you hear. The be all to end all is balance. Canon can be very biased, as far as abilities go. For movies that might work. For games it doesn't, especially multiplayer games. Hearsay is just that ... but trust the majority for the most part ...

Recon turns almost as well as the t3 (Akria style) Escort, while Deep Space feels more like a t2 or 3 crusier. (not a brick like t4/5 crusiers, but certianly not an escort by any means)
I can confirm that. Tested the Deep Space and Reconaissance today especially in Combat Situations to find out if the Reconaissance really is that useless and you donīt have to be an expert to feel immediately, that even if the stats might indicate a better turnrate when flying the Deep Space Ship, thats wrong. The Reconaissance is definetively more manouvrable.

PS: I was drunk when I replied to most of these statements. :p So if I was repeating myself or seemed overly ... chatty, that's why.
