That means you can use autohotkey as long as the macro don't go too far. If the macro goes too far they will ban you, regardless if it's from autohotkey or from g15.
he was very vague....

he made the point of "making the game perfrom how it shouldnt" which others pointed out was impossible because of cool downs. i cant make my guns fire any faster. or a special fire any sooner.

after reading all his comments what i took away was being exploitive...but then everyone had a different take.

crypic needs to join us in the 21st century and realize that most gamers uses macros whether it be a mouse, keyboard or AHK.

Most everyone has asked for in game support so its not like the majority want to automate the game... we just dont want to hit 1111111111 over and over and over. or set up our own weapons groups. Its common knowledge most people dont like teh UI. but we players have the ability to make it workable to our own comfort level.

ofc ppl will get banned if they decided to make a afk grind bot. i get a feeling that ppl has already done this for the crystalline entities quest, heck there is enough ppl farming it.
if ppl was to macro a repeating macro that hits the button 1, which cast the phaser power in ground combat, it would be a crim if the dev ban them.
heck, it is a crime to have to press the attack button every 1 second during ground combat.

no the crime in ground combat is our buffs. so not only am i hitting 111111111111 (well, im not, fixed taht day one!) but i am having to micro manage cooldowns. Targeting Optics and Focus fire's effects last just as long as the cooldown. So rather than make them PASSIVE click to turn on.., I have to click Targeting Optics every 5 secs. Unsually in ground PVP what gets me killed is having to take my eyes off the action to monitor 4 cooldowns and press 11111111. And 1/2 the time the specials dont fire off and i have to click them twice. Now PVE is so mindnumbling easy that most of the time I dont even bother but as klingon i nearly have to do ground

I dont know what it is. In WoW I have even more skills and more cooldowns. Even without macro help it doesnt feel as clunky or such a pain. Maybe its that there isnt as much movement during combat or I am not switching continually from ranged to melee. I just dont know. There is something about the $TO controls that just feels off.

I would be very surprised if Cryptic decided to crack down on simple weapon 'autofire' macros that help keep people from having to manually spam commands.

Without such a macro, you can find people resting one hand across the number keys and drumming their fingers continuously during combat to make sure they don't skip anything that they want to attack with.

With a macro, people toggle on the sending of the same commands automatically so they can actually use some of those fingers for movement and other commands.

The major difference from Cryptic's point of view is that the macro users will be sending *fewer* keypresses to the server because they're usually sending them with a delay between keystrokes while hand-spammers are sending as much as they can as fast as they can. Cryptic sees slightly less network traffic and the user is a little less stressed. It's a win-win

Neither party is getting any more performance out of the game regardless how fast they send the keystrokes.

Until someone comes up with a macro that is a *clear* exploit, I'd expect Cryptic to tolerate this sort of thing for a while.

(Ideally, Cryptic would refine the user interface to make this sort of thing unnecessary. Autofire doesn't have any need for traffic to the server since the server knows you want to keep firing...)

i think the main problem is, the standard attack with the ground weapon is like the auto attack in every other mmo. i personally cant think of a mmo where the standard auto attack dont auto attack. maybe they revert back to the beta version of ground auto attack soon.
