Normally with every MMO I have previously played I tend to research heavily my desired character class/spec before I pick up the game. This has not been the case with STO due to work and limited time.
Honestly I'm barely invested in my character thus far so I'm trying to decide if Tactical (my first choice) is really the best choice for me.
I tend to play Hybrid style characters in MMOs, ones that have support abilities, but are heavy on combat/solo ability. (Druid/Skald ****, Druid/Shaman WoW). I don't like being limited to one style of play.
As a Tactical class character what can I expect in terms of game play juxtaposed to say the Engineer?
Which is better solo and what does each contribute to group play?
so far tactical has been strictly pew pew pew for me. I made a Liberated Borg engineer but am much further along with my tactical alien so am having a hard time going back to the beginning with my engineer.
long story short, if you want more than pew pew pew you might want to go with engineer or science.
if you like hybrid classes I would think science would be best. they have the ability to be very offensive, and are good healers/buffers/debuffers/cc'ers...while tac is more pure damage, atleast from what I've seen.
I'm enjoying Tac officer. So far, my science officer does a great job healing me when need on an away team mission. The bigger question for me is this- Do I use a Escort or Cruiser with my Tactical officer?
I actually purchased an additional ship upon promotion to Lt. Cmdr., until I make the decision. It's a tough call...Tactical ships kick butt, but cruisers can tank like nobody's business.
