# 1 Question about Tier 2 Weapons

hello , i have a question about tier two weapons , as of right now i am using a IV plasma and phaser beam. Also using quantum and photon torps. would it be better to use 2 plasma beams ? and also are plasma torps good? thanks for all your help

From what I've seen on the forums:
- your plasma beams have a chance to cause a fire on the enemy ship for a short period of DOT
- your phaser beams will have a chance to turn off a random system on the enemy ship for a few seconds (shields, weapons, engine, aux)

So if you like that combo, keep it. If you want to double your chances to cause that DOT ship fire, switch to two plasmas

Not sure about the plasma torpedoes though. I know they do the same thing as the plasma beams/cannons but I think they are less likely to cause the fire because you generally attack with them less.

I'm personally going to try out Plasma Cannons with Quantum Torpedoes on my Escort. Happy hunting!

you bumbed after 8 mins? whats up with that... >.>

I had Plasma Torpedos during Beta, was doing alot of damage with them. They have good contact damage plus setting the ship on fire is an added bonus. I didn't get any of them during the headstart, so I don't know if they have the same umph after the game with live or not.

Better is a loaded question and depends in some (many?) cases on your play-style.

The relevant facts:
  • By the time you are a Commander, your skills are specific enough that you're only benefitting one type or another. Early on it doesn't matter (energy weapons and then beam weapons or cannons) but later you'll only be getting bonuses with one type of weapon (this starts about level 21).
  • Similar systems share cooldowns. Photon torps share a cooldown but plasmas share a different cooldown.
  • Different skills may use different weapons. Rapid Fire only works on Cannons, Beam Overload only works on beams, etc.

If you want to corner, you want to have matching weapons but then you have to micromanage the cooldowns a bit more. If you have powers that serve different purposes (more often the case with engineering or science aspects) then you want to have the tools to exercise those powers.

Regarding your specific situation, I would not worry about splitting beam weapons like that until at least Commander levels. Although I have no experience with the quantum torps, I have a fleet-mate who swears by them... A bit slower reload (refresh) but he loves his Torpedo: Spread I with them because it seems to lay waste for him.

lol it was at the bottem of the page within 8 min... i guess a lot of questions on launch day...

i would like to try the plasma torps but if they suck i would have hate to waste the pvp badges
