# 1 Patching Questions
02-03-2010, 12:01 AM
I have downloaded the Open Beta client with file name "Star_Trek_OB_SFX_ST.0.20100108a.0.zip" from my isp's servers so that i am able to cut down on the massive size of the game download.

First question: How do i update the open beta to a live version so that i may log in and play it?

Second question: From the version number, can anyone guess how much more i must download in updates in order to achieve live client status?

It should automatically update everything to current for you when you start the StarTrekOnline.exe launcher, then you'll be good to go.

Not sure about the download size though, as it seems to be different for everybody (launcher will also repair any corrupt files, etc)

Yeah you dont understand. The reason i ask is purely because i have a very low download quota on my isp. I would not like to be shaped because of the massive size of STO without knowning how big the download is going to be prior to actually downloading it.

I get that, but you did say you'd take a stab in the dark

If this helps: since the OB version there have been maybe 2-3 patches, at around 150MB each or so...

Yes, that is true i did ask for a stab in the dark if you didnt really know. Its all good.

Im updating right now, and so far its an 846mb patch from open beta to whatever its patching to. Perhaps this is the only patch XYZ version to current, perhaps this is just an incremental patch and more are to come.

Im used to Wow. Wow's patches are all incremental. I reinstalled wow once and i had to go through about a dozen patches, small, medium and large before finalyl being able to log on. That was just the way it was. There was no, Patch vX.X-v1.2.3.4 (meaning whatever the live version number is).

Not completly positive here but the beta servers were wiped. No characters or anything was saved. You need to have a retail version, meaning digital download from a retailer like D2D or a retail hardcopy from Gamestop or Best Buy. And I am currently adding the first patch to my retail version and it is 1009Mb. Hopefully this helps you out.

Umm yeah CPT that information is irrelevant. I wasnt in the beta (despite actually being eligible) so it means nothing to me if things werent saved as i didnt have anything that could suffer from those issues. And no i dont need to install the retail version as the open beta client worked perfectly.

I downloaded the open beta from my isp (so i could get 6.6gb of the download free from my quota) then installed and ran the game. It automatically updated to live with an 846mb patch file late last night and im happy to say im a LT level 3 on a pretty average looking ship. (needless to say its now morning here and after staying up til 3am i feel rotten and sorry for myself for enjoying the game so much)

Cant wait to get to level 6 to get into the klingons.
