# 1 Weapon Configurations
02-04-2010, 01:52 PM
Ok, the first thing I did with my Noob ship is, I swapped the rear phaser array with the Torpedo launcher. This means I no longer have to employ circling tactics to wear down an oponents' shields, then I just turn around and pop a torpedo through the hole as I fly away.

Anyone else running with similar nonstandard weapon setups on the lowbie ships?

Well, as you are closing you smoke the forward shield. But as you are flying past, the torpedo will hit the rear shield.
So 2 shields down, but very low hull damage if at all. Looks good in the book but not that effective in the end.
My Miranda tactic is mostly the sitting duck at 5.

i always run my miranda with a beam array, dual heavy cannons at front and a turret at rear.

you'd be surprised at how effective that can be if you balance your power like an escort. especially as the miranda generally does better against the lower ships due to reasonable shields and good hull compared to escorts vs cruisers at later tiers

throw in emergancy power to shields, overload beam and tachyon beam and you've got a shield eating monster that also packs a punch against hulls thanks to the cannons

I only have torpedoes. I have a MKII Quantum torpedo launcher and 2 MKII photon torpedo launchers - one in front and one in back. I had to do something since I was getting slaughtered in every encounter.

Actually, I don't usually fly past...I smoke the shield then make a hard turn to the left or right, depending on which way the enemy is turning, to try to keep the same shield facing when the overloaded torpedo launcher comes into arc.

I have tried a few configurations and the one I like is phaser/torp in the front and turret in the back. This allows me to just go straight forward like an escort pumping my auto-fires off while hitting up my torp every time it comes back online. It's much better than the standard load out I did while in the headstart...eats through things way faster. And better than a small arc weapon such as cannons (tried that also) since it truly depends on you getting into firing position.

I prefer using Dual beams in the front (Phasers or Disruptors, doesn't really matter) along with Photon or Quantum Torpedoes. For the rear array I prefer to use a Cannon Turret (if I can get my hands on one), but I will sometimes also use a torpedo bank there, depending on the mission. I like them there when I'm going up against swarms of smaller ships for use with the Full Spread Tactical ability.

I have gone all beams before in teams with friends that go all torpedoes. It's actually quite useful with proper coordination. I take down the shields and they pound on the hull. The enemies don't last long.
