Can anyone help me with how to make steady energy credits?
I do missions steadily and I can't even begin to afford to lightly modify my ship. Still new and needing guidance in the right direction as far as this.
My way of making money is selling stuff from missions. Or you can do the exploring missions, from Lieutenant Grall. They give 77 points where you can get items, and can use them on your ship or sell them.

Sell EVERYTHING you get (save for ship/weapon upgrades) at any vendor. Sell the old stuff too - ad you advance, the ealier/lower mark gear becomes pretty much useless.
If you're not going for a Esco4rt, sell all your cannons. They don't work on anything but Escorts.
Plasma weapons have a nice DoT (wqhen it procs, that is...) but fire slowly. Up to you if you keep 'em or not. Me, I fly a escort, and use their cannons - nothing else.
Don't bother with the Exchange - p[ricing there is really wonky until people figure out how a economy works.
I'm at Lt.C 3 and have a fairly pimp ship equipped with noting but drops/mission rewards. If you HAVE to have white gear, at Lt.C level you can get Mk. III gear at Starbase 30-Sierra. It's base (white) gear, but if you have to have it...
Actually you dont even need money (energy credits) to modify your ship. If you do the exploration missions you get fleet credits that can be turn in for ships components upgrades. You turn them in upstairs from the shipyard on starbase 1 (Sol system). This is also where you get new ships.
There is also the PvP rewards that can be turned in for ship components at Spacestation K7.
Basically you get energy credits from selling junk you pick up on missions. When you see a gold object in space or on ground that has some junk for you. Pick it up and take it back to a spacestation and sell it to a vendor.
I've been selling a ot of stuff and made enough to pick up some decent personal weapons for my Bridge Offs and ground.
I'll go for some PvP tonight since that seems to be a good way to gather the cash for my upcoming cruiser.
The exploration credits are something I haven't had many missions for. But then again, this game has me feeling slightly lost as far as where to go for certain things.

Just dont sell to Ferengi. They dont give near as much as Federation traders.
