3-4 seconds. Same with clicking on the middle to balance shields. So yeah, if you are surrounded in a fleet action and want to survive a little, you have to keep clicking the balance shields button all the time, plus pressing space all the time to keep weapons firing.
yup ! and with shields being slighly better than tissue paper for escorts it's a real frenzy keeping things on line long enough to get your forward weapons ready to fire, and not loose shields all at the same time.
I't not impossible ... but you'd better be working fast to do it .. and at the same time !
If Cryptic really believes that button clicking = combat mechanic (i.e. if they insist on confusing active player control of an avatar in combat with repetitive and mindless button mashing) then what they need to do is add an element to the ship status panel or UI that lets you weight shields (i.e. 40 front - 20 aft - 20 right 20 left for an escort or 15 fore - 15 aft - 35 right - 35 left for a cruiser - similar to how you do it with power distro), they could make it something you can only adjust out of combat if they feel it would be too much for in combat - then the current click for short boost to a facing thing would make sense, or at least more sense.
i don't mind pressing buttons quickly for a purpose, but preferably different buttons for a particular reason, it's a bit frustrating having to rebalance constantly and spamming firing buttons, the only reason it really 'bothers' me is that my keyboard and mouse aren't exactly cheap, and i wonder how many days of play will go by before the fire energy weapon and balance shield keys start to go out on them.
It is this simple, nobody would defend or tolerate having to repetitively mash a thrust button to continue going forward at a constant speed - so having to do the same for shields or weapons is as stupid, even if not as immediately obvious.
Come on Cryptic, time is ticking away. People will start to lose their patience. We need at least an answer on this, ignoring the issue will not make it go away. A negative or positive answer, or at least a "we're looking into it" would help somewhat.
Basically, you had a little marker that you place anywhere over your ship and shield indicator. If it is in the middle, then it tries to keep all shields balanced. If you move it to the front shield, it tries to keep the front shields at 100% before charging the other shields. If you move it to the back, same thing with the rear shields. You could also move it to the front-right, so it keeps the front and starboard shields up, or just move it up a bit from the middle, so it favors the front shields, but does not leave the side shields without charge.
+1 to this idea, I agree. I would like a shield auto-distribution toggle. For simplicity it should just be for the 4 shield faces or overall, and not a combination of faces.
To make things simple in the immediate, reinforcing a shield should continually reinforce it until it's full or another shield is selected. Equalize shields should work the same way, it continues to equalize until all shields are within a certain threshold of equal, or a specific facing is selected.
