Yeah, I've been getting emails too recently...How they farm it, i'm kinda curious too ^_^;
Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing? I have under 17k Credits at the moment from head start. Still only Lt. Rank 8 so not sure if that's Low or Average
Couple ways, one that i noticed is the crystal entity. Its a 5 min wait for a 10 second fight. If you can spam the most dmg you win the best prise which is a blue (rare). So im guessing they must spam fleet action to make up alot of thier goodies then try an sell them on the market with 1000% increase in price. Then they probably buy up all the other items that underscore them and then they repost those items at a 1000% mark up. Forcing people to pay for thier WAY over priced BS.
I only write a rant so long only because i feel passionate about hating GOLD sellers and market manipulators! Even though cant get away and they are in every MMO.
Just remember, guys. Every game, without exception, from the free to play Korean grinders to the most successful subscription game faces this problem. Don't judge the game based on some outside company.
How this is dealt with shall reveal quite a bit about the staff, and the player base as well. Remember, your words and actions reflect on us as a whole. No pressure.

Yeah. I havn't messed with the exchange much but, from what I've seen this is pretty much true. I've seen common items with a base value of 1,000 credits jacked up as much as 40,000. So I'm pretty sure most of them are selling credits for rl money.
Kinda dumb if you're willing to pay outrageous prices at the exchange though. Just do a search on the overpriced gear and you're sure to find somebody else selling it for less than base value. It took a bit of searching for what I wanted but I managed to fully equip my new escort with MK III and IV gear for pretty cheap off the exchange.
I just started selling stuff on the exchange and I usually try to make my prices a little more than I'd get for just selling them to an NPC and a lot less than actually buying the gear from that NPC.
Then again, I still have more credits than I know what to do with and the missions I'm currently on are still dropping lots of MK II...sometimes III gear that I don't really need. I outfit my old ship with the best and the rest I get rid of.
I think they should probably make a limit to how much you can mark up an item beyond base value. Maybe 10x? I can understand raising the asking price for rares and uncommons, but there's a point where the markup becomes completely ridiculous.
Limiting that amount would certainly be a big step towards getting rid of the gold sellers and might also cut down on everybody else that spams low-level fleet actions and sells the loot at stupid prices. It would certainly make shopping at the exchange a lot more enjoyable.
Odds are you'll see a lot of these a$$es go away when the grace period ends as most are not going to spend actual money to buy the game everytime their account gets banned for trying to sell energy credits for real money.
The easiest thing you can do is report the mail they send you as spam, which will automatically put them on your ignore list. If they send you tells right click on their name and report them as spammers.
The best thing you can do is click on the question mark on your mini-map and 'Request a GMs Help' and click on the 'Behavior' button to report their handles as 'gold' sellers. It takes a little more time, but it is much more likely that they will go away all that much faster.
Probably one of the worst things you could do is send their tells or mails a response, which will just make it all that more likely you'll get put on a list for the company as a potential customer.
Currently i have 1,295,385 energy credit, and i havnt bought a single thing from npc or exchange , ship outfitted with all X weapons/systems (badges) , so yeh theres zero need for any 'money'.
r.admiral 5
if you want gear do exploration missions or pvp , then exchange badges for items in shipyard / spacedock / k7
