# 1 Server "Upgrade" HAH!
02-07-2010, 08:04 AM
I was under the impression that an upgrade was to improve... I have hardly had lag issues, or disconnecting, now, I lag like crazy, have been disconnected and can't get back on...

So much for a server upgrade...

Well, it is a weekend. Most games see a threefold increase of players over weekends, as it's always prime time for at least two continents at any one moment. You've got gaming, socialising, or hobbies, with gaming becoming the more popular of the three with younger generations liking their shiny tech, and social networking being integrated with gaming systems.

Generally speaking, things are just peachy during the week as you've only got one continent in primetime at any one moment, and I expect weekends won't be quite so intensive either once we're out of head start and this initial month.

Heh, this makes me recall Theed on SWG's first weekend. It was literally an ocean of players. Not only could my friends and I not find each other, we couldn't close the game client because our processors were being drained to the limits just displaying everything.

You haven't experienced an MMO launch properly, if you haven't had your entire system lock up just from the sheer volume of "how do I get a lightsaber" messages it's trying to display. :p

Well this what I was under impression that was going to happen. This is a copy and paste from theyre news on the 2/2/10.

Hey folks,

We just wanted to update you on our in-game server capacity status. Throughout Head Start we noticed the overwhelming response to the game and we are working on changes to further increase the number of people who can play Star Trek Online at any given time. Our current plan is to have these changes in place sometime this coming weekend. We will, of course, keep you updated on progress as it happens.

Really, we just want to thank you all again for your continued support and patience. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be here.

but it seems like they would need more then 2 hours to do it. And yesterday I hit 2000+ que trying to long in, so as I see it, that means that they did it today in the 2 hours, which I am impressed. Or its got to come down again today for more time, or they arent doing it. Which if they arent they should update that statement and explain why and when it will happen. I dont need to keep in the loop of everything, but something like that they should explain. And it would keep the customer heated flaming hate down. Let me state right here, I am not trying to Flame or hate. Just saying what I thought and where my thoughts go. Now if in 2 or 3 weeks not hearing anything and on Sat and Sun having to log into a 2000+ que then I will be lol. anyway just want to put this up.

Cryptic hasn't upgraded their servers yet, it is in the works. It will improve soon. When you fire up the launcher just don't hit engage actually take the time to read what is in the window and be informed.

Actually rereading that startpage post I realize that they never actually stated they would be adding new hardware. In fact, it makes it sound like they are just introducing coding workarounds to squeeze as many people into the current box as they can.

Notice this line "We will, of course, keep you updated on progress as it happens." Do they keep us updated? NO. They make a lot of promises they don't fulfill though. Hopefully this isn't one of them.

I don't expect to see an update this weekend, as promised.

I believe you nailed it. Unfortunately, they said they would get additional servers and have them "rushed" the weekend before, during headstart. They said they would keep us updated on that as well. As you can see..no updates, unless you call the quote above an update? I think it's a change in what they promised and don't expect more servers.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them just do their best with what they have until enough fall out to fit on the server. It would explain the lack of real updates and broken promises.

I hope I'm wrong. Please prove me wrong, Cryptic.

Well I am waiting to see, they have about 12 hours now. But, its nothing I quit the game over. I really enjoy it, and this is the first game in a long long time on a release I am willing to stick around and hope that I can help and see what happens. Doesnt me I am a bottomless pit of wait either. But I am willing to give them my money for awhile. And hope.
