Capture and hold is really a simplistic measure for something more complex than bare attrition. That it is being applied for this scale and scope is the problem. Capture and hold makes more sense in a larger map where it applies to overall victory (the operational level). An entire battle would be spent in capturing a point (or to put it more realistically, a base), then a new operation would have to be formed for the next objective. Capture and hold (as defined in STO PvP) as a tactical objective makes little sense unless its on the ground (or in a base) and with troops.
I agree with the point about this being space with no chock points or paths people can just fly around avoiding each other I hope they introduce capture maps to ground PvP. Ground needs a number of objectives capture and hold, raid and defend and some more.
I disagree, if the capturing didn't take as long as it does you'd have no chance to ever defend a point against... freaking invisible ships!
if the time is changed to 20-25 seconds then you would have no problems stopping ships that uncloaked and tried to cap a point. If you are in the middle it can take you about 5-6 seconds to get to any of the points which is a lot less then 20-25 . With the current 60 seconds you have enough time to prevent klingons from capturing as a big group of 10 and just move from point to point, with the change it would force you to split up into teams depending on how many are being attacked (real area control tactics).
