Dear Devs,
I would like to make a suggestion to aid in the travel times that it can take to get from sector block to sector block.
In the TNG episode "New Ground", a group of scientists are experimenting with a new technology called "soliton waves" which are generated by a station. The wave is designed to propel a ship at warp speeds without the ship generating its own warp field. The wave and the ship riding it is pointed at another station, which generates a scattering field to dissipate the wave and therefore stop the ship. Obviously, in the episode, this technology failed.
However, this is almost 40 years later. It is theoretically possible that this technology has been perfected by now to be used "in production".
This could be the equivalent of "flight paths" for STO. They could go from station to station, say from Memory Alpha to K-7, and at a faster rate than normal travel! Players lose a considerable amount of time when we need to travel across those looong sector blocks! Something like this would greatly reduce wait time between missions or when needing to go sell things (to the highest-paying buyer!) or craft items. I know it would not necessarily be something that would be quick or simple to implement, but wanted to suggest it for a future update.
