I've not found most space combat TOO difficult, but too easy? Not usually. For the most part, it's been about right. I've NEVER found a place I could walk away and let the game play itself, no way, no how.

Yes, I do know how to rebalance shields, change power settings and use auto-fire, thank you.

Try a nice Reman D'deridex on for size next time you're in the Alpha Centauri Sector Block. Those are tearing me apart no matter what I try. (Solo, Commander 1 -- the D'deridex shows as a -1 opponent. Tier 3 Science vessel (the tier with the Olympic/Hope/Horizon -- everyone seems to number the tiers differently.))

So far I'm rank 30 and in space, the only times that I've died were because was too close to a ship when it blew up, I warped into deep space and had the 10 or so ships that seem to path through the entry point jump me (nothing like viral matrix and getting hit with 7 HY plasma torps), I took on large groups of equal level or higher ships by myself, or was in a group mission early in the game and the 2 people I was grouped with warped out and I tried to finish it alone.

I run max weapons and I'm running some green resil shields with higher capacity. Oh, and I'm in an escort and I'm a tactical officer. The space content has been pretty easy. The only time I get any kind of challenge is if I'm fighting +5 or higher ships. Even then, it's usually the groups that cause me problems, not individual ships or battleships.

I fail to see how anyone could drop all shields and have a chance after LTCmdr I've had fights where a torp gets through my shield and hits me for a little over 6000dmg. I've also found that anything +3 or greater can drop my shields....no easy task I think as I'm an Engineer in a Cruiser. So afk fighting isn't something I'd swear by at Commander.

Seems a lot of the "its too easy" crowd are in Escorts. Full power to weapons, 10km out drop to a crawl, rapid fire, high yield, spam forward shield...dead enemies. If you choose not to play that way the fights are a bit tougher.

I've had a few grueling fights...nothing like the start of OB but not too bad. That said I would not wish a return to those levels for EVERY SINGLE FIGHT. That IMO would just be too much.

On the ground those Psychic Guards seem to have my number. I just finished the Taris mission....I've never died so much.....30sec to a team wipe that was harsh.....

This is not the issue, mate, the issue as i have seen in EVERY SINGLE PERSON I HAVE GROUPED WITH SUB-COMMANDER, is the fact that they full impulse, drop out and then SPAM BEAM WEAPONS, leaving weapon power at 5/100, they then cry about the enemy having too tough shields because they are not dropping. Yep, EVERY SINGLE PERSON I HAVE GROUPED WITH.

Hell I do that when I'm lazy but I've got an EPS 2.2 and enough lock down that it doesn't mess me up I mean my power is back to 100 by the 2nd or 3rd volley... but maybe that is part of the problem they never let weapon power climb back up?

What are your BOff skills? I use Science Team; Jam Sensors I and II and Scramble Sensors on my Cmdr Science vessel. On a D'Deridex I start with target auxiliary (with that down they turn like a T4 cruiser on downers). Jam Sensors once I start to take a little shield damage, then Science Team if I see the little purple sensor torpedo incoming (Viral Matrix). By now my Target X skills are off cooldown, so I target his shields, then work on one shield while I start an attack run. Jam Sensors again, then High Yield Torpedo when his facing shield is low, and its all over but the warp core breach.

For my money, the most challenge I get from AI ships are the occasional times I face a science ship (usually a non-standard race, and only in certain of the explore missions, at least so far). These tend to have the ability to damage my hull through my shields, and I've been as low as 60% to one. The standard AI battles usually leave me with 85-100% hull and I rarely lose a shield, but then I built for defense (engineer captain in science ship).

I'm in an escort but i'm not stupid enough to use rapid cannons at a range over 5km. Anyone who flies an escort would know the damage drop off is ridiculous.

The difficulty is far too easy, I've stopped using my Defiant and switched to a Galaxy for the moment to see if that would make a difference but to be honest it really doesn't. You end up winning all the same, Sure you give out less DPS but you take literally no hull damage at all.

Dead before my torpedos come off cool down. Actually quicker to kill than three bird-of-prey.

Only thing that has been slightly challenging so far is Romulan cruisers (can be annoying if you don't land a tractor on them, as they will turn shield facings) or Hirogen squadrons. But I adapted my tactics to both of those.

It actually isn't. Someone charted it. Cannons have like 2km worse fall off than beams. I normally drop shields before I get to within 5km's.
