So I read this yesterday and immediately went thought, "Eureka! The solution to my constantly being targetted and losing shields too quickly. I'll give that ability to my Engi BO".

And ya know what? It worked perfectly. Not only did the problem the OP state above NEVER occur, but as I took out the closer enemies, my away team would move up some to engage the guys just a little farther away - they freely left the field; and better yet, my Engi BO setup a new shield generator to support them in the their new position. In fact, once I was having a duel with one enemy romulan when I noticed I no longer had that friendly pulsing blue bubble. That was because my target was the one lone bad guy in range in one direction, but that my away team had moved to engage a larger group in a different direction. So good ole engi went with them and set up a new sheild generator.

This skill works GREAT. I could actually use my science skills to better effect because the shield generator allowed me to keep the shields up. Using Tachyon Harmonic III tends to make the enemy a bit testy with me, so quite often I'm the sole target for 4 or more bad guys. That takes down a personal shield pretty quick.

don't bother giving them bat'leths either, they just crouch down as soon as an enemy is in range and use their powers. only if an enemy comes within 1 foot will they even attempt a *single* attack then crouch right back down.

chroniton mine barrier is utterly useless with romulans and beyond, the npcs all just backpedal the whole fight and it's not like my boffs are running towards the action. the *only* way to get my boffs to run into the fray is if they have neural neutralizer, and unfortunately only sci boffs can use that. no other skill will cause them to engage, ever.

Mine Barrier works if you also put generators down, because the enemy AI will often run up to the generators to get rid of them. (Which is silly, when they can just shoot them at range.)

only klingons actually do that. romulans, remans, cardassians, and up actually DO just shoot at range. only holographic baddies will actually rush you after a certain point. and killing them is pointless.

I've had Romulans charge my generators many times.

Yup I had the same problem Fire caves is a nightmare my guys jumped over the railings into the fire and died/incapacitated themselves in an un ressable place to avoid a plasma grenade thrown atm them. Had to complete the rest of my mission slowly with the security team escorts skill, till i got to the next load point, then got them back.

maybe my memory is a little foggy, it's been a while since i've been on the ground in romulan space, but i do remember having to run down medics and interrogators on many occasions. and anyway from remans on it is true.

re: the fire cave, my tac officer fell in that lava pit and was unconscious 200km below, that was kinda funny actually. i just abandoned my away team and used my drones/turrets to finish the mission, but occasionally i'd notice that one of my officers would "teleport" in way ahead of where i was then just sit there not doing anything.

in that 3 story pit with the water at the bottom, i put a rally point at the bottom and all 4 of them immediately jumped off the side, no hesitation. that actually made me choke on my drink. lemmings are the perfect boff analogy.
