# 1 Confusing values on weapons
02-14-2010, 04:59 AM
Say i have photon torp mk II 154 dmg (213) dps
Quantum torp MK II 174 dmg (203) dps

why is the higher damage quantum less dps?

should i be just looking at damage or dps?

it takes longer to reload.

dps is damage per second.

divide damage per hit by the reload time to get the dps. (d/t=dps)

divide damage by dps to get the reload time between shots (d/dps=t)

There's a crapload of confusing values in the game.

Why not just tell me the damage on impact (and any DoT if it's applicable to a secondary effect, like plasma) and the recharge time? Seems a lot simpler.

And if they could just tell me why some things are percentages and why some things are +0.1 etc. and how those values relate to each other that would be peachy too.

Has anyone written an essay/article/website/forum post on what all the different stats are and how they compare? (he asked, hoping not to be told off for not searching for such a thing already)

dps and damage done are probably the most used values when comparing weapons. your either looking for burst damage (high damage, lower dps) or damage over time (lower per hit, but higher dps due to firing more often) which would be why its these two which are shown. all 3 would be nice though.

as for the other stats, i dont know how they're all worked out so cant say much
