# 1 Virus killed my uninstall
02-23-2010, 12:19 PM
So I need to uninstall STO.
I loved it but I'm involved with another MMO and my group needs a new leader and it turns out I'm it.
So I had a worm that killed most of the .exe files on my computer including the "Uninstall Star Trek Online.exe" file.
So... Now I can't uninstall STO.
Ideas?

Install STO on top of itself, then uninstall?

delete the folder, though if you're really worried about shortcuts or registry entries, you can manually delete those or use a registry cleaner. Or you can just reinstall to the same location and uninstall like the other guy said.

  1. Locate Cryptic Studios Folder.
  2. Click the folder once, Hold Shift and Press Delete.
  3. Press enter.

Voila. Game uninstalled.

Though if you did have a malicious Virus/Worm/Trojan infecting your system, the only 'sure' way of eliminating it is a full repartition/format/reinstall of your hard disk...

If you are running Vista/Win7 you will want to run the uninstaller or the game won't be unregistered from the Games Explorer. Granted if that doesn't bother you then just delete the files and the Star Trek Online registry key.

Nah, the only sure way's rewriting your entire harddrive with 0s and 1s multiple times since you're going to be so technical about it.

The virus, captain! It's infiltrated the hard drive's firmware!
