Having tried both *** and WAR, I'd say their problem was the same: Pushed out the door too early.
Especially WAR. It needed the other 4 capitals in, the remaining classes that it took months for them to add, a more stable client, and a smoother endgame experience (with the 4 other capitals in to provide a different dynamic than the 2-capital tug of war we got stuck with). It could have gotten those things if it had stayed in development a bit longer, but no, investors wanted to see profits sooner, so in the end they got a game that took a nosedive after two months.
It just bothers me that the industry KEEPS DOING THIS. I mean, if you're not willing to wait until you have a finished, polished product that can actually compete on a realistic level, fine, then don't make a freaking MMO, or if you do, it'd better be free to play.
But no, they just push it out the door early then act all suprised when it tanks like all the other MMOs that did that.
