Hmm interesting tooltip says it doesn't work with skills and for the brief time I used it my skills had no effect. I could hit hyIII fire it then spin around and get the hyIII out of my rear tube. The best hit I have ever seen was 25k.

Hello.

Like everyone says, and their tactics imply, the tricobalt is not the end-all-be-all of torpedos, you dont just fire it and i.w.i.n.

Its most likely wont work well as your primary weapon, think of it as an execute.

the benefit of the Tricobalt is situational.
I have a lot of fun in my science ship when engaging a borg cube group. Imagine 3 cubes, scramble III, wait a few seconds until they take down their own shields, fly close and release Tricobalt.

The only annoying thing about this tactic is to search through all the borg debris for your loot.

I use it, and yes it does get blown-up alot before it hits, but then again when it does it's because I was a dumbass and shot it too early. It works best if you fire it point blank, and laugh as it instapops alot of people. I actually like it, and it's deadly when used properly.

I hit people for over 20k quite often with it. My best ever hit, as far as I've been able to notice anyways was around 25k I think. It works wonderful in the borg warzones also. It pretty much instakills the repair hubs.

I have no issues at all. In fact I moved it to a primary (front) slot because it's so effective. Typically I use it as an alpha strike tool on a battleship or Borg vessel. I'm flying a science ship and this is usually my tactics.

1. Once within range I fire Viral matrix III. This puts them down so they can't react.
2. As I'm closing in I'm using Tachyon Beam to lower their shields.
3. At about 4k I fire HYII w/ Quantum torps. If there were any shields left they're gone now!
4. At point blank range I fire the Tricobalt.

This has been so successful that I often feel guilty for my friend that has an Escort. I don't leave him with much (if anything) to shoot at.

No other weapon that I've found gives me this close to a one-shot-kill.

Based on what I've read here, it's effectiveness is based on your playstyle and tactics. I'm not fond of the cool down, but I understand it. While the Tri-C is recycling, it forces me to work closely with the Escort until I can reset.

I loved mine for pve but one day the npc started shooting it down like everytime.

Turns out it was my jam sensors, dont jam and launch its a bad combo
but iv still put it away for now, yeah I like the big numbers 30k for me but iv gone way back to basics and loaded up photons.

pvp and photons, I fire them every time I can, hy1 and 3 its boosting my dps

Who is a power leveler, I've got 2 x RA5s (Eng and Tac). On my Eng I have both Trimines and Tritorps ( rear) for some massive overkill.
